Hardware purchase advice: Sending IR on a schedule

I am really frustrated trying to find a way to do one little task… I search “IR” and certain modules say they have “IR capabilities” and then don’t elaborate on what that means.

MY DESIRED TASK: Have a module or device that I can program to send an IR signal to a “room air conditioner” to toggle it on or toggle off and have the ability to schedule this “ON/OFF” signal to happen, on my schedule… I might desire 10 times a day to turn it on for 10 minues then off for 50… or what ever.

With the AC unit I am working with, a simple appliance module Will Not Work… due to the electronic control unit, if you merely cut the power, then reinstate said porwer, the unit goes into OFF Mode… which is completely… AAAGGGGHHHH!

I don’t mind spending hundreds of bucks to get this ability, but I refuse to buy expensive controllers and modules on the outside chance that it actually can be set up to learn and send IR commands I need.

On another note… I do have an attic exhaust fan that it would be nice to operate periodically as well… now THIS thing WILL work on a standard 120V appliance module.

Thank You Very Much in advance for any help you may offer.

I moved your post to the HVAC area, since the folks here would be most likely to know what’s needed (for IR control of HVAC).

I believe you’ll want to search [Google] on a few keywords like “mini splits”, along with providing the specifics of the exact make/model you are trying to control.

From what I understand, there aren’t too many devices that can actually IR-Control these AC units, so it will take some research on your part (but hopefully someone here can also answer once you’ve specified your make/model# information)

I know that the SQBlaster lads did a bunch of work with Mini splits, but they’d likely need the make/model specifics before responding also (you can try their forums)

The remotec ZXT-120 is a z-wave to IR bridge for HVAC units. Looks like exactly what you’re looking for. http://www.remotec.com.hk/zaspx/product_content.aspx?aboutno=36&subaboutno=45&main=f
If your aircon is one of the supported models it’s just plug and play.
For other models it has an IR learning capability.
Make sure you get it with firmware version 1.2 or higher. Previous firmware versions had some bugs.
