Hampton Bay Ceiling Fan Remote (MR101Z)

I picked up one of the new Hampton Bay Ceiling Fan remotes from THD. It is a Zigbee canopy controller. I know it isn’t supported by Vera, but I was wondering if anyone knew what I would need to tweak to get it to work. In both SmartThings and Wink the Fan motor and Light control show up. However in Vera it is appearing as a Smoke Controller/Thermostat with Eco control. It also displays as a thermometer too.

Any ideas? Otherwise this it going back to THD and I’ll figure something else out. I was hoping for something simple as this ceiling fan has NO wall switch. And while cramming Fan switch under the canopy may work. Getting a Fan switch and Light switch won’t.

Hi @3rdStng,

Curious if you got anywhere with this. I haven’t picked one of these up (yet), but was wondering about Vera compatibility.

Looking through the core files in /etc/cmh-lu, I don’t see any built-in device files related to ceiling fans.

I wonder if some custom device files/plugin could be crafted to support this device - the fact that it is detected as a Smoke Controller/Thermostat is promising.

Some reference material that might be useful:

No. I quickly got no where. I even tried support to see if they could help, but that ended with an apologetic sorry, it is not supported. I’ve seen from other Wink forums that this device isn’t that stable either and needs to be reset often. Since my fan is hardwired and the only way to turn it on or off is with the remote, or circuit breaker, I wanted something more reliable too.

Vera is pretty lame at integration of fans that don’t have wall switches. I’m still trying to get Insteon Fanlincs to work but in the meantime I got an Insteon Hub harvested from a kit for pretty cheap on Amazon and have the Fanlincs set up to work with the Insteon App and Alexa… Now to put them in the canopy.
