Is it possible to give a device two names? I ask because I am using an Echo to control my lights and I am interested in allowing people to use the term light or lamp to turn on the living room lamp. I thought about using a scene, but it appears that I would have to use the term scene in the command to the Echo.
Any ideas? Perhaps some sort of virtual switch or something? It would also be nice to be able to say turn on the living room lamps to turn all of them on, vs just using the term lamp. Same issue with using scenes to accomplish this.
this is correct… you would do this in the actual Echo app - works great. Problem is that you can’t set any dim limits on that group… so if you group all your living room lamps during the Echo app, and tell Alexa to turn them on, they will all come on full brightness. the only way to do this with dimming is to create a scene.
What is nice is that you could do this for all your rooms, so it won’t matter what you room lamps are called.
Now, if you want individual control of lamps in separate rooms, you’ll have to give them different names… like Living Room Lamp, Family Room Lamp, etc. That’s the only way Echo will know the difference.
