I have been looking into other ways to control Vera from my Android phone (and hopefully soon tablet) and one option that look promising is Girder 5 + the Andre native android client for Girder 5.

A few users of Girder have been working out UPnP support (http://www.promixis.com/forums/showthread.php?21127-UPnP-and-Girder) and once a few Vera UPnP bugs get fixed it looks like it would provide control over Vera. @Quixote has been pushing this.
It should also be possible to write a native Vera Girder 5 plugin. Girder uses Lua like the Vera and it seems to be a pretty slick program. I downloaded a Girder 5 demo and am looking at how difficult writing a plugin would be.
I have no idea how Girder 5 compares to EventGhost, which is another similar option I just posted about (http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php?topic=7782.0).
However, I am interested in pursing both options. I like having choices, and I think the more options we have for controlling Vera the better!
