getting started, what bits do i need?

So I have read quite a few of the posts and I think there are so many that I cannot find out what I need or where to start. I have just got started with vera lite and a Kwikset lock.
I have a DSC 1616 board but do not have the IT100. After reading this info, I am not sure what specifically I need or how to start to configure my setup.

My goal is to have my system configured so that I can control my alarm through my vera setup and have the alarm deactivate upon entry through my Kwikset lock(s). Looks like at minimum I need the IT 100 board. I have limited experience with the plugins but am technical and have access to coders if necessary. Also, I do not have a new or recent keypad, just an old one that came with the original DSC system(I believe it is the pc100).

What do I need to configure my system with the vera? Thanks for all of the wonderful information!!

You don’t need to code anything really. All the information is here: DSC Alarm Panel
You can use the IT-100 or the Envisalink 3DS (or 2DS).

You will get more options, etc. using the Envisalink (alternate remote monitoring, etc).

Assuming your DSC panel is compatibel with the Envisalink, simply get the 2DS/3DS, plug it in to the panel board, plug in an ethernet cable to your router, then you’ll log in to the envisalink’s IP address and set it up with eyes-on’s site. that will allow you to remote monitor and get alerts from the eyez-on service. they limit the number of alerts you can get, however.

Once setup, the vera plugin is simple. You can control the panel as well as use its sensors as inputs for vera.

I bought my 2DS from the manufacturer’s site. if I were buying today, i’d buy from homesecuritystore since they’re in the states. eyes-on is in canada. price is about the same.

Also, regarding ‘disabling the alarm’ when a lock pin is entered, i do the same. but i do notice that most times it is not fast enough. that is, I enter the pin on my lever lock, open the door, and the alarm is not yet disabled.

I also have the DSC 1616 and went with the EnvisaLink 3 from HomeSecurityStore since it was cheaper and was still able to register it on eyezon.

Install was simple. First call your monitoring company if monitored and ask them to put you test mode while you turn the power off to your alarm panel. Wire the EVL-3 to your panel and connect a network cable and turn the power back on the the panel. Pull a browser up and connect to your EVL-3 and make the IPAddress static and creat a password. Next add the plugin to Vera and and search the forums where it tells you how to add the password as a variable if you changed it from the default pin (pin for the EVL-3 not your alarm system), otherwise you will keep getting Luup Failure messages. Then go into the setting for the plugin and enter the IP address and port and you are good to go, not very difficult with all the help on these forums.

When you use it in a scene just select the zone and state in the advanced tab and tell it what you want it to do and enter your alarm pin code, not the pin code to the EVL-3.

Thanks Guys! Let me review the information and will see how it goes. Thanks again, great forum!!
