My GE switches all helpfully remember the last dim level so that when i tap the top of the switch to turn them on they return to that level rather than to full brightness.
Unfortunately, i did not ask them for this sort of help and can not seem to figure out how to stop them from being so darn helpful
does anyone know if there is a way to tell the GE switches to always go to full brightness when the top of the switch is tapped to turn them on? perhaps a parameter that can be set that i can’t seem to find in the manual?
If you want to start at a low brightness level on the GE, first touch and hold the bottom (off) section for about a second. The light will turn on at its lowest level. The bulbs may not illuminate, but the led indicator on the switch will show the light is on. Now touch and hold the top of the switch to get to the desired brightness.
Not sure what your exact application is, but you could change the ramp rate and ramp step so that you basically have an on/off behavior when using the switches manually. You can still dim the light, but only through Z-Wave (Vera, remote, etc.).
In that case, after remotely having dimmed the light, a manual tap on the switch would still return to the previous dim level, but a slightly longer push will turn it to full brightness (because it takes only a single step to get to full brightness / you’re not slowly stepping through all the brightness levels).
my use case is that i want tapping the top of the switch to always turn the light on to full brightness and i also want to be able to use the switch as a dimmer by holding the switch down for those time i want to dim it. right now, if i ever dim it then the next time i turn the light on by tapping the top of the switch it does not go to full brightness, it goes to the last dim leve. sounds like i need to get rid of these GE switches if that is what i want. that’s what i was afraid of. thanks for the info.
