GE/Jasco On/Off Switch - Vera Plus Connectivity Issues

I just put a GE/Jasco On/Off switch in my garage for the overhead lights. It worked perfectly for 2 days and now it’s down to a 20% hit rate. I tried healing and excluding device, deleting and re-pairing. Same issues persist.

Anyone have any issues with these switches, or even the Vera Plus?

I noticed the Vera Plus does have some issues reaching a plug-in appliance module that another controller (Wink) didn’t have issues with.

At this point I’m going to submit for a replacement switch to eliminate that as a possibility.

Perhaps you could move Vera closer to the switch to test. I suspect that it is a signal quality(distance/routing) issue and not a problem with the actual switch.

Be ware that when working with radio frequency devices like Z-Wave or WiFi, things change often. Interference from other devices or even increased attenuation from people moving around can affect a previously working signal path. Cars coming and going can have a huge impact in a garage and a neighbor’s new baby monitor can change your RF landscape as well.

I had some intermittent connectivity issues with devices and switches in my garage when using Edge. When I changed over to the new Vera Plus the connectivity issues ceased altogether. The new Vera Plus is in the same location the Edge was and is hung on the wall.

I’m not really seeing your point.

I had connectivity issues when using Edge. Those issues went away using the Plus. To be direct the Plus has a better zwave radio.
The switch more likely the problem.

I didn’t that that’s not how that works, but what do I know?

I don’t understand what you are trying to say.

As I previously stated, I think his problem is signal/routing related and not a failing switch.

That your signal at your house seemed to improve when you changed from an Edge to a Plus doesn’t really seem relevant or an effective means of determining that his switch in his garage is bad.

And the OP already has a Vera Plus, so attempting to say anything about changing to a plus is also doesn’t seem relivent. So I’m not sure what your suggestion was to the OP to help with his problem.

If you would read what the OP felt was the solution I was supporting his initial thought of replacing the switch. Let’s just see what he has to do to resolve.

Couple more responses.

  1. Moving the vera and having successful communications doesn’t mean the solution is to move the Vera. It only proves signal attenuation. Most likely the switch has issue because the plus has a better radio and the switch is 6 years old. Switches do deteriorate. Moving the Vera can cause other anomolies to happen with other devices in the house so there is no reason to cause the OP more problems by suggesting moving the Vera. Most users put the Vera where it is most convenient and workable in the beginning. Moving it is a frustration. The simplest and safest is to replace the switch.
  2. Environmental changes at the level to cause issue do not happen often. If the OP can identify anything significant that has happened in his environment recently then that might be the issue. Think about all of the variables that change each day (as you mention people, cars, etc.) and you can go through years without issue. Again most likely nothing new has happened to affect. Zwave was designed with the intention of having a reliable robust network so usual environmental changes don’t affect reliability.

Summary:
The simplest most effective to way resolve the problem and answer multiple questions at one time is to replace the switch. The OP was on track.

Thanks for replies,

Since the switch is new I am going to attempt to replace it before I go to far into other options.

Also, my Vera Plus is turning into a total nightmare fast. Zigbee: Failed to start errors all of a sudden, Lutron Plugin wouldn’t connect earlier… Yay me.
