I have gotten the GE 45601 to control individual light dimmers and thermostats, but not more complicated scenes set up in Vera 2 with UI4. Having tried to set up buttons on the '45601, I need to reset them. To begin my questioning, what is the difference between “Scene → Remove” and “Scene → Delete” ??
I believe one is to remove devices from a scene, the other is to actually delete the entire scene.
After some frustrating episodes, and running into some pitfalls, I have come up with the following procedure to control Vera 2 scenes with the GE 45601 remote.
The timings of these steps is critical. Unless successful the first time around, the remote may show up as a second and/or new instance, messing up the device list. Previous button assignments may be lost. Triggering events in the Vera scenes may be lost too, requiring that they be edited.
Or all of these annoyances may happen at the same time…
This procedure assumes that the remote has already been added as a recognized device by Vera. Scenes should already have been set up in Vera, with events triggered by the remote’s “Scene ON” button(s).
If you have set up any light to be directly controlled by the remote, which is possible to do, the Vera scenes in question should leave these lights alone.
The Vera should be in its idle state (Power, ETH1 and ZWave LED’s steady-on)
Bring remote and Vera close together. You should have simultaneous access to the remote, to the mouse and to your monitor. It works best (for me) to manipulate the remote with the left hand while operating the mouse with the right.
In UI4, bring up the “Add Devices” page. From the Dashboard, this page is accessed with the “Wizard” button near the upper left.
On remote: press and hold “Setup” until “LGHT SETUP” is displayed, then scroll until remote displays “TRANSFER”. Press OK. Scroll right until remote displays “RECEIVE”. Do not press “OK” yet.
You have 30 seconds (max) to do the following five steps:
1- On remote press “OK”, then, without wait:
2- In the “Add Z-Wave Device” section of UI4, press the blue “Add” button
3- immediately followed by the “Option 1” button.
4- Wait until the remote shows “SUCCESS”.
5- On UI4, press “Next” - do not wait any longer: there is no new device to be added
UI4 should display that the Z-Wave devices are being configured but that
no new devices have been added. Press “OK” and return to the Dashboard: make sure
that no new remote or scene controller has been added.
I have two of these, and I’ve paired one with vera and have some scenes working (using on buttons only).
I want the second one to be an exact copy of the first. Are there any shortcuts? Can I copy the settings from #1 to #2?
Do i still need to pair #2 to vera?
It’s pretty easy to pair #2 and duplicate the scenes, just checking for better ways.
So Vera recognizes the device as “_Scene Controller” but on the SCENES tab on the Vera dashboard, there are no configurable options, the tab is EMPTY. Under the CONTROL tab, I simply see “scenes.”
How is it I configure scenes on Vera in order to transfer them to the remote??
Someone needs to create a Wiki entry for this remote, if there isn’t one already. If there is one, can someone post a link to it please. I am frustrated with this thing.
Thanks.
In any scene that you create, you set up an event that points to the remote. So you’d use ‘A scene is activated’ as the event, and then put the number of the button you want it to respond to in the ‘Which scene number’ field.
So Vera recognizes the device as "_Scene Controller" but on the SCENES tab on the Vera dashboard, there are no configurable options, the tab is EMPTY. Under the CONTROL tab, I simply see "scenes."The Scenes tab for the scene controller is only enabled for certain scene controllers. The Control tab will show the button assignments under 'Scenes', once you have assigned them as described above.
