GC-100?

I just installed the Luup beta, and saw the option to install the GC-100 plugin. I actually purchased one of these a while back, in response to notice of an iPhone-driven GC-100 control system that turned out to be vaporware.

Despite the apparent plugin support, I plugged GC-100 into the search window in the Wiki but found nothing. Am I missing something? Can someone please clarify if this is already supported by the new Luup version and/or if I’m just blind and missing the instructions that are readily visible somewhere?

Thanks in advance.

Go to:
http://wiki.micasaverde.com/index.php/Main_Page

And in the search bar, type:
global cache

I see at least 8 mentions of the GC-100 among the results.

Not sure why GC-100 shouldn’t produce the same results. In any case, none of the 8 links noted address the question I posed. However there was a separate thread started (minutes before mine) where someone from MCV noted a new build with some support, apparently due later this week. I’ll wait to see how support is implemented in the next release.

Do you know how to telnet or ssh into Vera? If so, run this command:

logread -f

and then power up your GC100. You should see that Vera detects the IP request, then figures out that it’s a GC100, and then creates a new device and displays the new device ID. Once you see that, the GC100 should show up in the user interface. You can then add a plugin for the Philips infrared controlled TV and control it from Vera. We’re pushing out a new release hopefully tomorrow that let’s you create your own device templates for controlling IR devices. If you want to try this out now you can upgrade to this firmware: http://download.controlmyhouse.net/betafirmware/ftp/wl500gP_Luup-1.0.879.trx

We’re just finishing our test sequences on it before releasing it.

I upgraded to the beta version listed above and I see no changes at all and nowhere could I find the IR stuff

…and still not recognizing my USBUIRT

…and still no progress on the bug I reported

Try under DEVICES > Infrared > “New IR Device”

This is a new sub-heading as of firmware revision 1.0.879

Got it. I refreshed 5 times with no luck so I logged out and waited 5 min and it came up. Anyone have any luck getting the USBUIRT to work. I am at a stand still until I shows up. Thanks

Where did you read that the USBUIRT is supported in 879? AFAIK, we’re still waiting on the manufacturer to get us the drivers compiled for MIPS? My posts were about the GC-100, which is what we are using and works.

Anyone would get the impression that the USBUIRT is supported, from here:

http://wiki.micasaverde.com/index.php/LuaUPnP#Adding_a_basic_infrared_A.2FV_device_or_RS232_that_already_exists_in_the_database

Adding a basic infrared A/V device or RS232 that already exists in the database

  1. The user adds an infrared transmitter/receiver, such as plugging a Global Cache GC-100 into the LAN, or a USBUIRT into the extra USB port on Vera. The device is recognized and appears automatically on Vera’s devices list. For communicating with a serial/RS232 device, the user can also connect a generic USB->RS232 (usb->serial) cable in Vera’s spare USB port, or connect the device to one of the serial ports on a GC-100.

So I blew 55.00 on one, bought an extra remote for my home theater area, upgraded to the new version in Vera, submitted a ticket about the USBUIRT not showing(not even assigned yet), and have been checking the forum every hour for the new IR support for a week. I just got the new version and now I am dead in the water

I also just came accross this while spending 20min searching through Wiki and 10 min searching the forums for the link to the Wiki page about the GC-100 install. Thanks for posting it by the way LibraSun

The next release includes LuaUPNP and infrared + gc100 support. So it will be a couple weeks at least before it’s officially out since there’s lots of testing still to do. The 604 firmware fixes the PIR issue. We didn’t push it out as official because it effected only a few customers. But 604 is the same as 602 just with the PIR fix. The link is here: http://download.controlmyhouse.net/betafirmware/ftp/wl500gP-1.0.604.trx

That wiki post was actually an early announcement of the future capabilities of the Luup engine. We will support the USB UIRT, and intended to on the initial release. The issue is that the USB UIRT has some closed-source drivers which we need from the manufacturer to be recompiled for the MIPS architecture in Vera, or for them to give us the source code under NDA so we can compile it. I’m not sure of the latest status on that as someone else is handling it. I’ll ask. But I know that the USB UIRT driver isn’t yet included.

I talked to Jon and he said there was discussion of providing a built binary code for you but he hasn’t head from MCV for several weeks on the details of the dev platform

Unfortunately, CJ, our guy who was working with Jon just left for vacation today for 2 weeks. He’s in Europe and we stagger the August vacations. The last email that I have that I was cc’d on was from CJ to Jon on Aug 10 asking for the login to the build server. I’m not sure what happened after that. I’ll follow up with Jon while CJ is gone.

Thank you.
