G.E. 457XX

Hi: Anyone have any comments on the G.E. 457XX series of toggle switches?

Thank you.

I am not familiar with a GE toggle switch?!

They are replacing their original line of rocker switches with that model number series - the model 45609, 45612 and 45610 switches are discontinued now as the new replacement models, 45709, 45710 and 45712, will have both white and light almond faceplates in the box (interchangeable) instead of WB or LAB. But these are all rockers, not a toggle.

All the rest of their products, the lamp and appliance modules, receptacles and their remotes are all being renamed to the 457XX series (ie: 45602=>45702, 45605=>45705). These are all coming into our inventory as soon as the old 456XX series are all sold out.

Where did you hear about these toggle switches?

Update - The Jasco 45712 Z-Wave dimmers came in today, turns out they are redesigned from a two-wire to a 3-wire dimmer now, requiring a neutral. And, they now come with interchangeable faceplates in both White and Light Almond. The 45612WB and 45612LAB 2-wire dimmers are now discontinued.

are they visually the same? From the pictures I’ve seen they no longer have a status LED?

They are not exactly the same, they still have the blue LED but it is smaller (or rather the plastic that lets the led light thru is smaller) and the air gap switch is a bit different. I uploaded a pic of each, side by side for you, here, http://imgur.com/u2OrnHD

Looks close enough I don’t think it will be noticeable when the old and new ones are mixed in the same bank of switches - that is GOOD for me…

Anyone have these in the wild? Googling around, I saw a blog post [url=http://blog.haworldonline.com/ge-jasco-z-wave-model-45612wb-lab-dimmer-switches-have-been-discontinued/]HaWorldOnline.com is for sale | HugeDomains that indicated they may not sell the updated 457XX directly to consumers, but I really doubt that.

I am holding off on any new z-wave switches until the 457XXs are available so I can use LED bulbs in the future…

I’m sure some are in the wild but I have not seen one yet.

You can buy them here.

Odd that haworld did not respond. That’s his site.

I’m in the same boat. I plan on replacing a lot of my lights with LED over time an don’t want to be stuck with more than the single dimmer and 2-wire switches I have now.

My apologies for not responding sooner, been a bear of a week, the past couple actually, with the new sites and store pending.

The 457xx series are not available to retail channels, they are meant for the service industry only - ie contractors/installers. We have them in stock but can only sell them to contractors/installers/electricians. If you are using an electrician, give us a shout and a contractors state license number.

Jasco did contact us a few weeks ago to let us know that the JASCO 45612, 45609 & 45610’s in contractor packaging in both the white AND the light almond colors will be available for retail customers until supplies run out so that has kickstarted sales for them again, but they are quickly running out so will be out of stock by years end I would guesstimate. Actually we have already bought them out of all LAB’s except the 45612’s.

Yes I have seen other retailers who do sell the 457xx series, as integlikewhoa posted, but thats their buyers agreement they are messing with, not mine so not my concern.

I contacted Jasco a couple weeks ago to get an idea for the release of the 457xx series products with the GE brand for retail, and never received an answer, plus it looks like Jasco is shutting down retail sales of z-wave on their website so not sure what that means at this point. I would speculate they either are going with distributed retail sales only, installer only sales and/or perhaps are going to concentrate their efforts more on Wink and the GE/Quirky relationship. I know they have been working with iControl and Zigbee for a number of years now so we will see. This is only pure speculation on my part, so take that for what it is, a guess.

As far as 3-wire dimmers go, I would go with Linear, they are a better quality switch, less returns, and less expensive, plus you can buy color kits for them as well. Linear is also coming out with a 2-wire dimmer as well, supposed to be this month sometime, so am assuming they are trying to get a legacy product in place for those without neutrals.
