Freezer Alarm

Does anyone know of a Z Wave devise that could be used to monitor freezer temp. It would need to read -20 F or so. Everything I have found want read cold enough for use in a freezer. I lost a freezer of beef because of a failure, so I am looking for something to text me if the temp gets to +20 F

Maybe something like this http://www.smarthome.com/71934/Minotaur-Engineering-RF49-X10-Refrigerator-Failure-Sensor-Watchdog/p.aspx Wired to the extra switch terminals on a Schlage door sensor? Then when the switch opens you can trigger your email alert notification. I can’t tell for sure, but I assume that this sensor just grounds or opens the circuit based on the temperature change.

The other thing you could do is use an aeon 4 in 1 sensor, but I would be concerned about RF performance when it is in the freezer, plus I don’t know the operating temperature specs.

Have you look at Z-Wave Fibaro Universal Door & Window Sensor or Fibaro Universal Sensor, just add DS18B20 temperature sensor/sensors.
Range of Temperature sensor -10 to 85 degrees C.

It is not commercial grade but for notification it may be suitable.

I use $15 sensors from Ebay right now that has a piezo alarm on it. I am wondering how hard it would be to adapt it to power a mimo or something like that so it can be interfaced with vera?

I use mytaglist.com tags and I setup their Tag Manager to make local http calls to Vera with updates. It tracks when the door has been open too long and temp changes.

Hrm, 3 C in my freezer today. I want a Z-wave enabled freezer…

I have yet to implement but it’s on my amazon wishlist

If you are willing to build a few sensors yourself with the Arduino Gateway Plugin, you can buy some cheap temperature sensors to do this. I think I spent less than $50 to add all my temperature sensors. (See the attached example screenshots)

I have been watching for a US availability of qubino products … the following would solve your needs:

You can most certainly use the GSM Commander for this application.

We manufacture the product in South Africa and ship world wide (over 25 000 devices sold to date)

You can use the GC0641 (Standard GSM Commander) with a GXS082T (Digital Temperature Expansion, range of -50 … +120 Deg C) and a Digital Probe.

This setup would cost Roughly $521 (excluding shipping) & it can handle a max of 8 temperature zones with a max cable length of 50m.

The system can SMS you or call you if your freezer is rising in temp. It can also log the values to a cloud based server called Airdrive.

If you are interested in finding out more, then drop us a email (sales@gsmcommander.com)

The GSM Commander has hundreds of applications due to the fact it is a PLC with GSM functionality.

Thanks
