I have a mix of Foscams FI9821W and FI9804W. Under UI7, they are sending the message “Failed to detect camera type”. Nothing huge, just annoying. Other than the message (in the blue section at top along with the INSTEON complaint) everything appear to be working fine.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I did notice that under UI7, my cameras impl file got changed to I_ApexisUI7.xml ??? It seems there is a specific impl file for UI7 cameras now?
It also happened here as soon as the upgrade was finished.
Nevertheless, your Foscam motion sensor should have keep the original file (I_FoscamPTZ.xml) but it is true, the camera lost the file name and shows I_ApexisUI7.xml instead.
By replacing the file for the one before (I_FoscamPTZ.xml) you will get your PTZ up and working again without problems!

Thank you! This little fix (replacing the UI7 I_ApexisUI7.xml entry with I_FoscamPTZ.xml) worked well for most of my cameras. Of course no fix is perfect, so now I still have two cameras reporting problems;
Failed to configure camera
Failed to detect camera type
It may be some obscure setting somewhere :-). I’ll keep digging, because otherwise I would have to go back to my day job ;-).

After poking around for a solution, I just decided to DELETE both Foscam devices (the ones complaining above) and re-added them making sure all the fields were correct. No more complaints from Vera!
You have to manually add the Foscam camera device, since Vera does not have Foscam’s listed. The biggest hurdle is getting that snapshot URL correct.
The Foscam URL I used: /cgi-bin/CGIProxy.fcgi?cmd=snapPicture2&usr=&pwd=
NOTE: replace “” and “” with your real username and password.
Another Foscam issue is turning on and off the motion detection. I wanted to turn off motion detection on my inside cams when I ran my “Home” scene, and turn it back on with the “Away” scene. After many attempts, unsuccessful I might add… I ran across a nifty guide to the Foscam API;
Next comes the fun part; figuring out all the URL switches. Yours will differ from mine of course, but I suspect you can figure everything out from the user guide. Another gotcha; if you turn OFF motion detection, it erases all the settings, so you have to specify a whole lot more than just motion detection in the URL.
Once you have the URL figured out, you need to wrap LUUP around the result.
Here is the code (you will have to replace “” and “” with your camera username/password and replace “” with the specific IP address:
For “Away” (enable motion detection) … “…Enable=1”
Wow… this is way over my head.
What are the steps I need to take to make my Foscam FI9804W camera show up and work in veralite UI7?
I am not a programmer and most of this stuff is a foreign language to me.
Do you have a basic step by step guide that I can use to install the camera.
I have had Foscam cameras connected to Vera for about 2 years now, I always recommend getting BlueIris for your cameras to handle recording and motion detection.
If you have BlueIris, uninstall the cameras from Vera, install the BlueIris plugin (This Plugin is great, thank you to the developer) and have Vera get the video and motion detection from BlueIris, you can still pan and tilt and you get a live video feed instead of snapshoots every few seconds in Vera. The added benefit from this is now the only connection to the camera is 1 from BlueIris, all users and systems go to your more capable PC running BlueIris to get their feed, this lowers the stress on your cameras plus if the cameras are on WiFi the cameras will perform better. Another benefit is that BlueIris has much better motion detection with adjusting sensitivity and masking out areas like trees, ceiling fans, streets, etc.
The BlueIris PC doens’t need to be that new, I have a 12 year old PC with 2 GB of ram running 6 cameras and it works fine.
I’m having a really hard time getting my new Foscam 8I8910W configured in Vera UI7. It seems nothing I do in settings actually will sucessfully install the camera.
I’ve gone through all the suggestions here, tutorials linked, and have the correct IP and URL in - 192.168.1.13/snapshot.cgi?user=xxxx&pwd=xxxxx
When I click next on setup, the page that is supposed to show me a thumbnail instead just gives me a popup saying:
A username and password are being requested by http://192.168.1.8. The site says: “ipcamera_00626E521D3C”
Anyone have the same thing going on? How can I get this to work?

Are you missing a port number for the camera? e.g. in the URL: 192.168.1.13:nnnn/snapshot.cgi?user=xxxx&pwd=xxxxx
replace nnnn with whatever port your camera is running on
I have exactly the same problem with my Foscam. The URL is correct like in this post with the correct portnumber. When I copy the URL in my browser, it just displays the stream. But when I use that URL in the config and I click on next I get the same pop-up.
You sure 'bout that? I have four different models of Foscam on my network and I use the same url in all of them save for changing the IP info and they all work fine. I do get the error message that they can’t be detected but after spending some time on the phone w/Vera support I was able to find a bandaid fix. If you go to advanced settings for each camera scroll down to the 2nd to last field were it says CommFailure and it will have ‘-1’ in this field. Change this to a ‘0’ (zero) and tab to the next field (note that there will be a message next to the field stating that the change has been saved) which is CommFailureTime or something like that and there will be a long series of numbers (12747294 or something similar to that but can be any sequence of numbers) and delete that entirely. Don’t type in a zero just make it blank. Click the ‘Reload engine’ at the bottom and give it about 10-15 seconds and go back to your dashboard. In less than a minute you should see that error message go away. Repeat as necessary. They’re aware of this issue and I believe are creating a fix in the next firmware update.
fails to detect camera. Are there other step by step directions. The PDF one does not work for me and I have verified that accuracy of the IP address, username and pswd. I thought the Vera 3 would detect the FOSCAM but no joy. I have read all the posts and have entered every url options that I have found without success.
I have a Vera 3 with UI5. Firmware .59 plugin 1978
I’ve been using http://CameraIPAddress:PORT/snapshot.cgi?user=USERNAME&pwd=PASSWORD and adding my info. I’ve used all of the camera types also with no joy.
Appreciate all advice. NN
Thanks
