Foscam FI8908W Wireless IP Camera

We really need MCV to make this an official stand alone plugin as I presume If I wanted to add a Foscam using this modified xml its gonna break my Panasonic one!

Probably Strangely,

I think the same modifications could be made to the Generic IP Cam files, but you are right there should be an easy way to get a Foscam setup through the marketplace.

Well, and there should be a lot of things added to the marketplace, like all of the private plug-ins that have been working well posted at code.mios.com for starters.
The plug-in is in Vera’s UI in the (Mios) Marketplace, it in different places n te different UI’s (UI4 near the top under header + sign, UI3 at bottom + sign, UI2 in settings? do remember). Install the PanasonicPTZ Plug-in and the you have follow the instructions here:

and/or I have attached my .xml replacement file there too.
Thanks for this Shady, I have the Foscam so I can see the feed now, I can’t move it yet though. I uploaded the xml file you pointed me to and checked the commands in there afterwards and they are the same. I’m not familiar with Luup at all and I’ve had my vera 2 for half a day now so I’m still learning. Is there something else that I should do to tell vera to use the new xml file?

Thanks for your help,

Mark

Make sure after uploading that you check restart Luup engine, let it do its thing, you may notice in UI4 (in background, Luup file upload box in foreground) the busy/loading box in the upper right hand corner…once that disappears it is done uploading and restarting Luup.

I think you might have to Save or Reload/Refresh UI4 after that, using the button in the upper right after closing Luup upload box.

If it still doesn’t work it might be a difference between Firmware of our cameras…maybe…I’ll check mine and post it later.

@MarkC -

I have googled for ‘Ucams Pro’ and am not finding it; do you have a link?

Many thanks!

It’s an iPhone App, try the app store for UcamPro or UnetCams. They are both really good apps. I’m not sure how to post a link to the app store or I would do so for you.

Thanks,

Mark

I rebooted Vera and the Pan-Tilt seems to work now, thanks. The “Zoom In” button sends it in to a frenzy though, looks like it is giving it a “home” or “patrol” command instead of zoom. Does your zoom work?

Got it - thanks!

There is no zoom AFAIK, so those buttons were mapped to “patrol”. Zoom in is horizontal patrol and Zoom out is vertical patrol. I think it is handy as it is a quick way to move the camera, just tap either up, down, left, or right to stop the panning “patrol” action. You can always disable those lines in the .xml file if you want.

Glad its all working!

Hi, got my cam from www.ipcam-central.com Their Customer Support (they have online help on their site), suggested me to use for my Iphone the Live Cams application by Barry Egerter. Does anyone know how does that one compare to UnetCams? Is it worth to download it?

Sorry, haven’t tried that iPhone app (I use iVera) …

By the way, for all Mac users with an Airport Extreme: I just received my FI8908W (which so far seems pretty nice for the price) and I was able to configure it directly from my mac (without any Parallel/Fusion or other windows related app).

 1. Connect your camera via ethernet to your Airport Extreme.
 2. Start “Airport Utility” (in /Applications/Utility/)
 3. Go to Advanced → Logging & Statistics.
 4. Click on “Logs and Statistics” button.
 5. Click on “DHCP Clients” tab.
 6. Find the IP and MAC Address of the latest added client (it will most likely be your camera).
 7. Open a web browser, go to camera’s IP
 8. Configure your camera’s user settings/basic network settings (set a static IP)/wireless settings (scan, click on your network, select encryption, add password)
 9. You can now disconnect your ethernet cable and access your camera wirelessly via its static IP

Hope this helps!

Has anyone had any success with using this camera with an android browser? I was looking to purchase the notion ink because I’m anti Apple.

It looks like the device will have an android browser but not the Market so I will be limited to the camera apps I might be able to get. I am not very familiar with Android, so help/info would be much appreciated.

Chances are it will work. Foscam has added support for Google Chrome and other browsers that don’t use Active X, so yours will most likely work with one of the choices. You might try contacting www.ipcam-central.com because I hear they have good customer service and probably know the answer to this for sure. Also they probably have a good return policy if you aren’t able to make it work.

Got mine today! Works like a champ. Easy set-up, easy Vera integration!

Apparently IPCam Central has some applications mentioned in that work with Androids phone. FAQ

Hope this helps!

The notion ink adam really isnt a phone and doesnt have access to the market as far as I know. Where can I find some information about this camera regarding non activex browser use?

I ordered and received 3 Foscam IP cams last week: 2 x FI8909W-NA and 1 x FI8908W Wifi pan/tilt camera. I’m a mac user.

After some trying I succeeded in wireless connecting to a FI8909W. Works fine, also via the internet with the build-in DDNS function.

I also succeeded in linking to the second FI8909W, but all I see is a black square. No video whatsoever. I suppose there is something wrong with the cam. I’ll send it back next Monday.

But what I would like some help with, is with the FI8908W. I’m able to connect with a ethernet cable, I find the IP address, I can log in to the camera by typing that IP into my browser. I see the live video, and I’m able to fill in all my Lan settings (SSID, WPA password, …) and basic network settings. I give the camera an IP address (for example 192.168.1.30) and reboot the cam.

Then (within 30 seconds) I remove the ethernet cable. After a while the LED on the camera blinks rapidly, meaning it found my wireless network. But I’m not able to connect wireless.

What could be the problem?

You may want to ask www.ipcam-central.com their chat tech support can be pretty helpful.

I think I’m going to try one of these before we leave for Germany in November.
How has this item been performing for everybody now that some time has passed.

Works just perfect both in lan and wifi. Have two of them.
