Forum Web Server Performance Sucks!!!

It has for a while … but I always assumed it was me living out in the country … with a limited 5MBs (hopefully) link.

Today I am in Houston … with 70MBs access speed.

I often have to refetch a page … because it seems the Forum Webserver looses the request … Am I the only one ?

No, your not the only one.
This has been a battle since day 1 of my Vera…

MCV, appear not to want to do anything about it, nearly tempting to setup a proper Forum that works.

No, you’re not the only one. It is slow for me as well, for months now. Sometimes it’s not terrible and other times it is terrible. It’s never fast.

Edit: Right this second, it’s pretty quick. This post responded unusually fast.

Edit 2: But the last edit took 16 seconds to post.

The time that’s it’s really, REALLY, slow is when reporting a post (spam, etc)… Takes about 5 minutes before its comes back with a successful completion.

I’m suprised that this post has only attracted 3 replies.

Are we the only 3 people effected?

Are you the only three people affect? Probably not. But, some people would just accept it.

I totally agree with the problems in their implementation of reporting Spam. It is just too slow and there is also restrictions on reporting or posting in quick secession. It is really bad if try to add attachments from some mobile app to a post because the restrictions kick in.

I actually do not experience any issues most of the as I am mostly on a Mobile app and now very rarely to I access it directly but when I do, I haven’t noticed any real delays.

No, deathly slow for me as we’ll. I prefer to use an app as its quicker than the page straight.

The MCV website since its update is appalling and often doesn’t load fully, its a wonder they are in business still these days, and I cannot believe its because they are getting very high customer usage!

The forum was very slow for me yesterday. I’m in France with DSL connection. Now it’s okay. It was the first time I did noticed such a slowdown after one year of daily use.

Performance is random for me. Sometimes it is fast, other times it is like I’ve gone to a high latency link and am trying to download the entire contents of the Encyclopedia Britannica over a 150 baud dial up modem.

What else does this server have running on it?

Seeing how the wiki is a known spam magnet (kudos to McvChris for deleting the spam), wouldn’t it not be easier just to upgrade/update the software running on the server to stop the crap from coming in? I bet that has something to do with the performance issues.

Nothing special there.

However, running a whois on the micasaverde.com domain shows this at the end (after all the GoDaddy.com and Registration By Proxy stuff to hide the contact info for the domain):

Name Server: ROSE.NS.CLOUDFLARE.COM Name Server: TOM.NS.CLOUDFLARE.COM

Looks like steps were taken to try to speed things up using CloudFlare.

Looks like the main server at micasaverde.com is down. Getting a CloudFlare error.

It’s all part of a big plan to make Vera’s web interface look fast by getting you used to the norm of slow sites like MCS forum 8)

I never notice it going slow as I have turned on user recognition. It only works at my pace.

I wonder if they are trying this - IP over Avian Carriers:

http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1149.txt

IP over Avian Carriers with QOS:

http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2549

And a supposed real life implementation:

Heck, it might even be an improvement.

Is it just me … or has the forums gone from Sucks to … I do not want to login here anymore ?

Even with rural broadband speeds in the UK, I notice that it’s a tad slower than usual… Actually, that’s r…e…a…l…l…y slow.

LOL, I thought I was the only one. For a few days it has been taking way too much load time to reach the link that I click on. I have been clicking the link, then switching to another tab to do something else for a while before coming back to it.

Edit:
Hahaha, I clicked “Post” to submit the above reply and it took 1 minute and 41 seconds to actually post my reply! This sucks…

Same here. For the past week it’s been horrendous overall, but it varies with brief(seconds) periods of acceptable performance before severely slowing again.

Same here.

Mostly unusable here. NE US

works fast early morning for me ( CET / France ) then goes quite bad during the day and sometime not useable at all
