Save yourself $50.
I am writing to report that I just installed the Filtrete touch screen 3M30 thermostat (the little brother of the 3M50). If you call on the phone, Filtrete will tell you that it does not work with Z-wave. I am here to report that it does! It works perfectly.
The 3M-30 has all the features of the 3M-50, except, it does not have the auto-switch from heat to cool (or visa versa) and it does not come with the wi-fi module. But, if you go to the 2-gig site and order the Z-wave module, it will work.
You need to know that the mate button is a hard button next to the reset button near where the wires connect to the thermostat. To “mate”, bring over your Vera 2 – as usual – press the Z-wave button to put it into “include mode” and then hold down the “mate” button until the Vera 2 responds. The next thing you know, there is a thermostat on your screen.
I saved $50 this way at Home Depot. Since my gas company is giving a $25 rebate, the difference between the two units nets to $25 versus $75. (You do need to pay extra for the Z-wave in either case.)
