Hi all, first post and all that
I’m considering getting the fibaro dimmer module, as the HE 107s I have are not the greatest - very poor range, susceptible to interference, plus the useful feature of going bright/dim 3 times if it decides that it’s received 2 "on"s in a row.
Being a newbie with these, I’m wondering if they will work with a 2 way switch setup.
I’d be using just two standard bistable switches with common, L1 and L2. Wired:
common to common
L1 to L1
L2 to L2
Would it be possible with the fibaro? I’m thinking of:
Take a lead from common, into Sx
Take a lead from L1, into S1
Take a lead from L2, into S2
(remove L and SL from L1 and L2, so no power to Sx, S1 and S2)
Live and switched live into L and N-O.
I’m just struggling to get around how the fibaro works with the switch part.
So for Noobs in simple language (this is what I couldnt find at all anywhere)
The dimmer module by Fibaro supports two way switches.
I used FGD211 v1.4 - v1.8. I am also using vera lite ui5 but this isnt relevant.
My set up has two bistable switches (on or off - no spring bouncing it back).
You have to set the parameter 14 as per manual to bistable switches as the default is monostable
You have to set the parameter 17 as per manual as this enables two way switching.
you have to wire the switches as per attached diagram and not as per manual. (if you have a neutral cable available i.e. a three wire system then you can connect N directly to neutral and not to O.
you can use your existing 2way switches or change to normal on off switches. (basically they are the same thing)
Something to add here regarding your choice of lamps. When you do tests always use halogen lamps (i.e. above 28w tested in my case) these work the best as fibaro dimmers need an extra component if you want to switch very small loads. I also tested a 8w LED lamp which is dimmable. the conclusion is that if you connect your dimmer module’s N directly to neutral it can switch it (on off). if there is no direct connection (and you connect N to O (this is the difference between two wire and three wire )) then the light would not switch. CFL lamps wouldnt work either. you probably need the extra module for those to work.
