Fibaro Dimmer 2 - Association only working with other dimmer 2's

Hey guys,

I’m new to this forum and pretty new to Vera as well, I hope someone is able to help me get past the first roadblock Vera presented me today ???.
I’m trying to setup the secondary switch (S2) of a Fibaro Dimmer 2 to control all other Z wave switches in the house. I followed all the tutorials and I’m pretty sure I have it all set up correctly. My problem is that it seems that the dimmer can only associate with other dimmer 2’s. All other Z wave devices fail to respond. (even a Fibaro wall plug)

Anybody has had the same problem?

Thanks a lot.

What association groups are you using? ( there are 4 different ones you can use, group 2 is for binary on/off on S1, group 3 is for dimmers on S1, group 4 is for binary on/off on S2, group 3 is for dimmers on S2. How many in each group (5 per group max, 10 per device max). Lastly in manual states that the Dimmer must but able to communicate directly with the associated switch with no hops so they need To be relatively close?

Thanks shallowearth,

I have tried all groups (2,3,4 & 5, I only need on/off functionality) and in all groups I get the same result: only the 4 Fibaro Dimmer 2 I have in my set up respond, the rest does not.

All the Z-wave switches are in 3 - 8 meters of the dimmer, in total I have 7 associated.
I tried associating just one switch (AN181) in 1 meter range of the dimmer, no result.

Could it be Fibaro Dimmer 2 communicates through a encrypted protocol? I could explain why the dimmers only communicate among each other. I stumbled upon this thread http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php?topic=39327.0

Thank you.

Oh, that is right, these are z-wave+ Devices, if you want them to be able to controll non-z-wave+ switches through direct association, you need to include your dimmers in non-secure mode. Since Vera doesn’t have a setting for this, you have to try what will work. That means including them in the Vera with a double click instead of a single click on the b button maybe, or 6 toggles instead of 3, or you might need to make sure the switch is over 2 meters alway from the the Vera (or even farther away)? I am not 100% sure what works for this Dimmer, but you want to make sure it gets added in unsecure mode.

You might also need to send a bug to Vera Support saying the you need to be able to specify when adding a switch to Vera if it is in secure or unsecure mode. It is kind of a new thing with these z-wave+ devices.

Okido,

Thank you. I’ll check with Fibaro and Vera to see what I can do. I’ll post the results for future reference.

Ok, I figured it out.
Fibaro Dimmer 2 allows you to change non-secure / sucure communication per association group: Parameter 27. Associations in Z-Wave network security mode. Secure for Fibaro dimmers in group 5 and non-secure for all others in group 4. Works like a charm now
