Ever need to reboot your Vera REMOTELY?

I’ve been out of town, or at work, and my Vera becomes unresponsive. We all know what we would do if home; unplug the Vera power and plug it back in LOL.

But how do you do this remotely?

Consider the following device:

It’s expensive (about $70), but sure gives me peace of mind that I can “fix” my Vera no matter where I am.

Yep, good find.

Much cheaper to do it via a relay. I have my Elk security panel I can log into and trip a relay to power cycle my Vera. I also have relays for my DSL modem, router, IPTV box, XEP(comm controller for the Elk).

Finally I can RDP directly to my PC and play with Vera via my LAN.

You can also just wait 24 hrs for the Vera to heal and reload.

How often do people have to do this? I feel like I’ve had to restart mine 4 or 5 times this summer. Don’t ever remember having to do this in the past at all ???

What abou a crontab in Vera box to restart every week?

Several Options
Cron job - scheduled restart
Scene with luup os.execute( ‘reboot’ )
Could be scheduled cyclic or manually executed as long as Vera is assessable remotely.

Ip power that can monitor (there is also an Vera app)

This was the preferred method when Vera was requiring regular reboots in the past. It goes along the thinking that a regularly rebooted Vera wouldn’t crap out on you when you need it most, so an on demand remote reboot wouldn’t be necessary. It’s cheap $4, it reboots every night so at worst you’d have to wait 24 hours to get to a working Vera, also it may take 10 minutes or so to get the off/on cycle due to the mechanical switching. Digital versions could probably on/off cycle in a single minute.

I realize that remote reboot is ideal considering you may be wanting to verify something important like locked doors, etc.

here is my setup
a) I have scene , executed every 48h with os.execute(‘reboot’)

b) on top, I use my old vera lite with one zwave power plug on which my vera edge is plugged in , and I use my vera edge with one zwave power plug on which my vera lite is plugged in … each vera being accessible from remote access, I can eventually force a on off on the other vera this way

c) on top, I have a VPN on my internet box so I can VPN from outside if needed as a plan C

Is it a good idea to reboot nightly?

Wouldn’t a simple solution be to plug Vera into a WeMo plug, and then remotely on/off the WeMo plug?

Yeah when I saw the first post I thought the same thing that thing is to expensive to do what the WeMo plug (wifi Outlet) can do.

45.00 on amazon.

I ended up using a Wemo outlet as a ‘hail mary’ remote reboot too. Had some left over from when I thought wemo was going to.be more useful.
