Ecolink Z-Wave Sensor

Has/does anyone use the Ecolink Z-Wave Door/Window sensor? Found some fairly cheap on ebay, http://www.ebay.com/itm/121244998254

Was wondering if it is/has a dry contact? Want to use it to hack into my doorbell.

I’ve never used these Ecolink branded door sensors. But, I have used the Schlage RS100HC Door and Window Sensor, which appears to be identical and is comparable in price.

The Schlage sensor does have an internal terminal block that can be used with dry contacts. I use it for implementing multiple magnets in series for large multi-panel sliders or windows. It could definitely be used with a doorbell button. But, the button circuit cannot be powered with the usual 24Volts AC of most fixed install door bells. Dry contact only.

If your door bell chime solenoid allows you to mount the door/window sensor close enough, you may not need to alter any wiring at all. As @RichardTSchaefer has pointed out in the past, the chime’s electromagnet should be strong enough to untrip the reed switch in the door/window sensor.

I was actually going to try to see if it would trip it without any wiring first, didn’t see RTS post about it though. Thanks for the link to Amazon, it is prime too :slight_smile: Mine does have a “plunger” type device so, if I can’t trip it with the chimes magnet, I was going to try to put a small wire on the plunger and have it close the loop, or add a magnet to it.

This could work too. Clever!
