Easier Way to Get your Camera URL

I’m trying to get a couple cameras to work with Vera. The first thing you need to do is figure out their streaming URL before you can attempt to set them up in Vera. These, especially cheap, cameras did a lot of work to hide their streaming URL so they can force you to use their clients. After doing a lot of wireshark work, I grew weary and started looking for an easier solution.

I’ve found it with http://www.urlhelper.com/index.htm URL Helper. You can use it free for 30 days so click “cancel” when it asks for registration. Then, open the camera using their client in Windows. Here is the key: Click on every option that displays video. When I clicked on the “Main” stream for the cameras and the “Sub stream”, the URL returned by URL Helper was for flash. (It shows .flv in the first column.) But when I clicked on the link to set up the video, A DIFFERENT URL was shown! THIS ONE WORKS without flash!!

Now to figure out how to get the stream to work in Vera (which isn’t as hard as figuring out the stream URL) with these 1080p $60 cameras . . . .

Forgot to mention: Use VLC Media Player to verify the stream URL’s.
