(DUE TO RUNNING UI6] Sonos UPnP auto discovery not working on VeraLite...

Hi All …

Super Newbie here… just need a hand w/ the Sonos plugin wiki via my VeraLite. I’m stuck on the step below. It states that “Automatic discovery (UPnP discovery) could require an additional setup of your Vera Lite”. The link directs me to this thread, but I have ABSOLUTELY no idea what I’m supposed to do (as I currently am unable to select the IP address of my Sonos player in the step below, nor am I able to save it. Can someone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help. Many thanks.

Please note that I have downloaded both the UPnP and the sonos app. Thoughts??

Select your Sonos?
This step will allow to link a Vera device to a physical Sonos unit. It is required for the device automatically created when installing the plugin from the Marketplace or for the additional devices you created without specifying a IP address. Note it can be used to assign the Vera device to a different Sonos. It can be useful in case your Sonos has been assigned a new IP address. Please note that you must avoid having several Vera devices linked to the same physical Sonos (same IP).

Find your new device in the UI,
Click on its wrench button,
Open the Settings tab,
Push the Discover button and wait for few seconds until the selection box is filled and the Select button is enabled again,
Select your Sonos in the selection box and then push the Select button,
If the automatic discovery is not working (the selection box remains empty), you can enter the IP address of your Sonos zone in the field New IPand then push the Select button,
Wait for few seconds for a complete initialiazation

Please do not double post. It is frowned upon by many on this forum and will delay getting an answer. Some will just ignore it completely.

If UPnP auto discovery is not working with your Vera Lite, you have 2 options:

  1. forget UPnP auto discovery and just fill directly the IP of your Sonos in the New IP field and then push the Select button. You can get this IP address using the official Sonos control application (in About menu I think).

  2. fix the auto discovery in case you are in the same situation as @MacFly92 and me. For that, you have to follow @MacFly92’s explanations but I agree that it is very technical (network), maybe too much for a standard user. But that fix is working for @MacFly92 and me. Note that it was mentionned by few other Vera Lite users that UPnP auto discovery is working without that fix. So we are not all in the same case.

Thanks lolodomo… I tried putting the IP address in the New IP field and pushed the select button. It won’t save. That’s the problem I have. If this isn’t related to autodiscovery do you know what is causing the Sonos player not to take the IP address? I can’t seem to be able to access any of my playlists or play any music.

RE: the “fix” - I have no idea where to start. Is there a step by step “for dummies” on this?

After pushing the Select button, do you see the state (same tab) switching to On and all other fields at top of this tab updated (name, …) ?
If not, either you entered a wrong IP (not the IP of one Sonos) or your Sonos IP is not on the same subnet as your Vera ? If Vera and Sonos are not on the same subnet, additional setup will be required like defining a rule in your router.

Regarding the auto-discovery fix, you just have to read @MacFly92’s post (the link I provided) and he explains in details what command to run in the console to change network routing.

But first try to make it work with the direct IP address providing.

The IP Address is correct (I got it directly from the Sonos App). I also know its correct, because it labels the Sonos player w/ the same name as what the Sonos Zone is called. I can also see all my Zones under the “Group” and the zone associated w/ this IP address selected. I simply can’t get the “settings” tab to accept the IP address entered (which I suspect is why I can’t access any of my playlists.

I’m so lost on what could be causing this. I even tried other Sonos players and their respective IP addresses. The same issue happens regardless of player. If music is playing in the zone (that I start w/ my iPhone), then I can use the controller to stop, pause and play the songs via the VeraLite controller, I just can’t seem to be able to access any playlists or start playing any music directly from the VeraLite controller. Ideallhy I am trying to play a “barking sound” via my Sonos player for the patio when the external motion sensor is triggered, but I can’t access any of the playlists. What am I doing wrong???

How would I check the subnet? Would this be through the router itself?

What version of vera UI are you running ?

Apparently you succeeded in pairing your vers device with your Sonos unit ? How did you do if it is not through the settings tab ?

I am using Vera firmware 1.6.641.

I added the IP address manually via the “Advanced” tab, under “IP”.

Any thoughts?

I am somewhat in the same situation. Only the control tab works, none of the others do. I entered the IP through Advanced tab.

Sonos plugin: 1.0
Vera Lite: 1.6.641
Sonos software version: 5.1 (build 27277060) Beta

Ok, that’s the explanation. The UI part of the Sonos plugin is not UI6/UI7 compatible.

I added the IP address manually via the "Advanced" tab, under "IP".

Good point.
With UI6, you can try to use the plugin in scenes (should work) but unfortunately the UI is known as not working with UI6 and UI7.

Hi … I called Vera tech support yesterday and they tried to “fiddle” w/ the Sonos app and called me back and told me the same thing. The Sonos app does not currently support UI6, so I’m out of luck. She said that they will let the developer know and see if they can upgrade compatibility this week (fingers crossed).

Lolodomo just stated several times that it is not compatible with UI6 and UI7. I also believe he is holding off on support due to not having a development device with UI6 on it.

Absolutely, I have only one Vera Lite running UI5. It is not a test environment but my production environment.

Thanks … I called tech BEFORE Loldomo responded… my response was just to let him know that I ALSO called tech support and got the same answer. While Lolodomo has been quite helpful (which I very much appreciate) you appear to have a bit of a chip on your shoulder. I’ll leave at that. As the new guy on here… I wouldn’t want to piss anyone off. ???
