DSC Alarm System and Motion Detection

Hi all,

In the process of installing a DSC alarm system with associated door sensors and motion sensors.

My question is, will I still be able to use these sensors to make rules (turning on lights if motion is detected), or to count how many times a door has opened and closed, check the door status, starting camera recording on motion detection etc.

Will this be possible or will I have to get special Z-Wave detectors?

I will be using DSC touch panel with Envisalink 4 to get it onto the network.

Yes you will be able to easily do all of those items listed except for counting door openings. I am not sure how to do that, or if it is possible.
What model DSC are you using with EVL4?

I think you could use PLEG to count door openings, maybe in conjunction with a multi switch. Not an expert with PLEG but I think it’s powerful enough to do that.

You should be able to set up a PLEG rule like this:

Input: door_open - link to sensor device event
Condition: door_open_alot
Logic: door_open @ 5 <3:00

So when the door_open event happens 5 times in a 3 minute span the condition will be true. Add notifications or actions to suit.
