DSC 1832 alarm - Tr5164 install trouble - Help!

I have been lurking here for quite a while and thanks to this place have jumped into the home automation/ alarm. I read the 13 page thread on vera and DSC alarm integration a few times and basically bought my equipment based off those recommendations. So far i am extremely happy with everything but i have run into one brick wall, and i figured everyone here was so helpful this would be a good place to start for help before calling a professional.

Equipment List:
DSC 1832 panel - Ver 4.6 - hardwired door, motion, motion - will install future motion for home automation
TR5164 module - will have about 8 wireless window contacts
EVL - 3 - integration with Veralite
PK5500 hardwire keypad - Ver1.30
Veralite

My issue seems to be with the TR5164 module. I installed my DSC1832 with 3 hardwired zones and the EVL-3 with no issue. Everything with those items is working well. except one of my motion is displaying as a door contact in Vera but that’s another issue for another day.

I have found 2 things going on when i try to install and connect the TR5164. First when i go to section 903 it shows 2 modules a PC5400 and a PC5132. Everything in the menus seems correct as far as i can tell. The second thing is i get a “GEN SYS TMPR” warning than will not go away and the wireless modules will not work. I have scoured the internet and tried a few different installation methods, disconnected, reconnected, cleared and reinstated the module, and powered everything up and down. I read that there can be compatibility issues with older model equipment but all my stuff seems to be the latest model numbers and software versions.

I can do a range test (904 i think) on the windows and the system gives me an Chirp saying it has good connection with the wireless modules. It also will save the serial numbers for the wireless modules. I am completely lost. I went from a high thinking I can do anything down to banging my head on a wall.

I would also like to add that i love my Vera. I have always been a tech junky and this thing blows me away and i am just cracking the surface. I need to get this issue solved so i can Move into PLEG to fully automate the house. This is my first attempt at an alarm install so feel free to talk to me like i am five year old.

Thank You in advance,
Gerard

Well, it looks like you’ve got a few different issues occurring.

As a disclaimer, I do not have this module in my set-up, but I think that I can help you fix your problem.

When enrolling wireless zones, they cannot be on the same block of 8 as wired zones. So if your wired zones are 1-3, then your first wireless zone has to be 9. The keypad will let you enter them in, but they won’t work.

If I had to guess, I would say that your main board came with some baggage (maybe a product return that wasn’t factory defaulted, but again, just a guess) due to the fact that it is showing a board you have never installed. The reason you keep getting GEN SYS TMPR is because the 5400 has a tamper circuit, and it is ‘tripped’. You have 2 options here. Because it shouldn’t be there, you have to be a bit wary of what else is programmed onto your board that you don’t know about. You can get rid of the 5400 with [902], then re-enroll the 5164 with [903], but you may still have some surprises lurking in other corners of your board. I would suggest you do a factory reset on your main board just to be sure and start fresh. You only have 3 zones programmed, so getting back to where you are now, without any possible gremlins, won’t take long.

To reset
*8
Installers code
999
Installers code
999

That will give you a fresh start.

I understand that the TR5164 will show up when enrolled as a 5132, so that is ‘normal’.

I would definitely start with your system reset, just to be sure, even if the problem is fixed.

Good Luck!

Thank you for the reply. i think i have found/ fixed a portion of my issue. I did not understand the programming correctly and was not turning on the proper zones to allow the alarm to see my wireless sensors. after reading and reading and reading, i had a light bulb moment and saw what i was doing wrong with my programming.

Once i fixed that issue i was able to tell that one of my wireless sensor was not placed properly, keeping it open and giving me the gen sys tmpr. I moved the wireless sensor and that warning went away.

As for the enrolled modules that has remained the same. I dont know if that is a bad thing but as far as i know, which isn’t much, everything is working as it should.

The alarm did seem new in box so i hope it wasn’t previously installed but who knows.

When you go into [903] does the 5400 still show up?

I Will check this evening and report back.

Sorry for the delay been crazy. It’s shows a PC5132 and PC5400. Don’t know if that’s normal but everything seems to work fine.

Hmmm. Interesting

Wonder why.

Oh well, it works, that’s all that matters
