Door / Window Contacts

Hi, Just curious if there are “better” or “worse” door and window contacts for a wired alarm system. I’m seeing a lot more focus on wireless sensors and wanted to check if there are specific contacts I should avoid or specific ones I should consider.

So you have a wired Alarm system already? If so then even the most cheap ones should be OK. You just need to make sure that if they have built in EOL Resistors, that they are matched for the brand of panel that you have, or buy some without EOLRs and either disable EOLR support in your respective panel programming, or fit them at the End Of Line (or even panel end if you want a shortcut and are happy with a bad job)

No its a brand new system in brand new construction (see here for more info http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,14343.0.html).

I plan on using the DSC 1864 if that helps (I’m still a bit of a newbie to know what I dont know).

I’d like to hear some specific recs, too. I’m going with the DSC 1864. I guess I’m just worried that I’m going to order a bunch of magnetic sensors that don’t work with the panel!

They will all work, you just need to make sure they don’t have any End of Line Resistors. Or if you do then make sure they are 5.6K Ohm ones. Worst case scenario is that if you do order the wrong thing, then just turn off EOLR support.

OK. How do I know if they have EOLR?
