Door Sensor on Sliding glass door

I am wondering if anyone can give me some advise on installing a door sensor on a sliding glass door. When the doors come together there is a lip on one that overlaps the other. Because of this, i am not able to secure the sensor with screws (to get them close enough I would have to drill through the lip which would prevent the door from closing). This is a rental property so I do not want to use an adhesive tape. I am concerned with people closing the doors hard and the sensors moving or falling off. What other options do I have?

I have seen a vibration sensor, www.robbshop.nl

I’m assuming you have two doors that slide together to close: If there is room on the frames on the top to mount magnets somewhere then use two standard wired reed switches & magnets and wire in series to a Z-wave sensor which accepts a wired input (e.g. Everpsring SM103, Fibaro, Vision, Wintop, etc)…

These work very well and come off cleanly.

Thanks for the information.

Frasier, you are correct. I have 2 doors that slide together when they close. Do you happen to have a link to something that will give me more detailed instructions on how I would install the solution you proposed? I am not familiar with reed switches (other then what I read after I Googled it).

Ds514, Have you used the 3M strips on a sliding glass door? If so, did you have any issues with the sensors moving (or falling off) to the point it did not function properly. I am concerned with this approach because it is a rental property and I am not sure what the renters may try to do to them. I am planning on using the sensor state to turn off the AC when the doors are left open so it is important the continue to function correctly.

Screamhouse, I was not able to find the vibration sensors on the site. Do you have a direct link to them?

I mean just standard wired security contact sensors like http://www.maplin.co.uk/miniature-contact-switch-12565.
You connect them in series so that both must be closed by the magnets in order to close the circuit on whatever Z-wave input device you choose.
They don’t have to be mounted at the point where the doors meet - you can position them anywhere along the travel that won’t interfere with the movement so long as the magnets only line up with the sensor when both doors are closed.

Thanks for clarifying. This looks like it may do the trick.
