Does Vera support streaming from security camera, or only snapshot?

I was able to successfully setup Lorex LVH1000 to hook into my Veralite. However all the settings / advanced settings seem to only ask for snapshot URL (and use it in the UI, and it keeps refreshing the URL AFAIK every second to kinda show the camera). I’m wondering if Vera supports video stream at all or it only supports video snapshot for all the camera? (mine is not an IP camera so I’m not sure if IP camera is different).

Thanks!

There was something in a previous firmware update about addition of H.264 support, but there was no documentation about it.

Thanks. Btw, where did you see the addition of H.264 support? Is there a firmware update release note somewhere?

This was the announcement: http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,31785.0.html

Thanks!

Vera is no good at streaming cameras. And it bogs vera down. I would suggest using a homeautomation app that has both steaming IP cameras and vera control in one app. You intermix everything but without actually sending the images threw vera first.

… Imperihome APP does a pretty good job at this ;D
Currently availible for Android.
But as a BETA tester for the IOS version I can confirm it works great on IOS also.

Thanks, I installed imperihome but it doesn’t look like it supports streaming from a DVR. Or maybe my Lorex LHV1000 is not compatible with imperihome?

It supports anything that has a IP or feed accessible via HTTP or web address. If you can get streams to a mobile device with something like a IP camera viewer then it will work. If the cameras are IP (which I assume not) then you can also go straight to camera. If not there should be away to access the DVR.

I also have a camera with only H264 and rtsp. If you also have a NAS you could use a PHP-script to make pictures available on other platforms. See: http://domoticz.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=6794 On Vera you use the IP of your NAS and the link of the generated jpg to add the camera.
