Lately, I’ve suffered a nagging voice as to what the power consumption might be when dimming LED bulbs. My suspicion was that there would be little or no savings due to the cut off behavior of LEDs.
Attached is the result of a crude set of tests I performed using a dimmer and both incandescent and LED bulbs.
The results indicate a significant reduction in LED power consumption at lower dim levels while maintaining a relatively good light level. There is no savings in the upper dimming range.
