difference between 'a sensor tripped' and 'an armed sensor'

Hi,

First of all… Happy New Year to you all!!

Now my question.

I have a foscam FW8918 camera with motion detection.
The motion detection works fine, here no problem or question.

The question is when i add motion detection to a scene using a trigger.
When adding this trigger i have the option ‘when a armed sensor is triggered’ of ‘when a (xxxx) sensor is tripped’
Can please someone explain to me the difference between those 2 settings?

I use the camera motion sensor for 2 other scene’s

  1. for switching a spot light on a clock :), this only during specific time and when motion is detected, the light stays on for aprox 1200 seconds when motion is detected and switch of when no motion is detected anymore.
  2. switching my thermostat to ‘comfort’ when someone is in the room and back to ‘night’ when no one is present again.

The scene’s are setup using the ‘a sensor’ option, my question is what happens if i use ‘armed sensor’ instead.
I tried this once on the lighting but then the light never switched off again, so i do not understand the difference between the 2 settings.

Who can explain to me what and how to use exactly.

Thx!!!

Motion Sensors can have two states: Armed or Not Armed.

This will allow you to trigger events in each of those two states; 1)When Armed Sensor is Tripped and/or 2) When Sensor is Tripped

For Example, I have my Garage Door sensor Armed only when my home alarm is on. Vera will then send me notifications if the door (Armed sensor is tripped) is opened. I don’t need to know if the kids opened the garage and we are home because i would get notifications all day as they are in and out of the garage.

Also I have a motion sensor on my patio. I want to detect motion only late at night to turn on a light. I have set that sensor to be armed at 1:00am to sunrise and use the “When Armed Sensor is Tripped” trigger.

Finally, I want a light to go on in a closet regardless of wether the sensor is armed or not. I use the "When Sensor is Tripped"in that case to turn on the light.

So for your example 1: I would arm the sensor at night and use the “Armed Sensor is Tripped” trigger and for 2: use the “Sensor is Tripped”

If you don’t have the Day/Night plugin, you will want to install that.

I hope that clarifies that for you
