Dead nodes impact on Vera

I have always had great response time with my Vera up until today. All of a sudden scenes started running 3 or 4 seconds to respond. It turns out that one of my dimmers only controls one light and the bulb was out! That is enough to disable a ZWave in line dimmer. Vera does not handle any lack of communication well from what I can see.
Food for thought…
One should be careful in the use of ZWave devices that can go offline…it really screws up the little bugger!

That is true, I guess it would be a good new feature to be able to temporarily disable, or change the number of retries, for a specific node.

Two wire dimmers use the light bulb to complete the circuit - the dimmer has an locating led and if the bulb is bad the led won’t light (a quick way to determine if the bulb is bad). On small networks this could be an issue if the devices are not speaking directly to the controller and are hopping thru other devices. Remember the controller will always try to talk to the device directly before routing.

Imagine how many houses would never be able to utilize the Z-Wave technology because the houses are older and don’t have a neutral in the box.
