Danfoss living connect not responding

I have installed a Danfoss living connect thermostat. It inegrated ok into my Vera. I tested it at the time, and it changed the setpoint and reported it back to Vera too. Now, about 2 weeks later, i have finally had time to write a schedule to change setpoint at certain times. But i noticed it stayed on 20 degrees. So tried to change it manually from Vera, but it stays on 20 degrees, so does not seem to react to setpoint changes. When i try to change setpoint through Vera, i get the error message ‘failed waiting to retry when node wakes up’ which i got too when it worked. But that message now just disappears, and the setpoint stays at 20 degrees. When i press the point button on the thermostat to check the setpoint, that is also at 20 degrees.

I have 5 of these valves, each of which has caused me problems at one time or another. There are several things you can do to “revive” your Danfoss;
Remove one of the batteries from the holder, wait awhile and then reinstall.
Make sure that the middle button is pointing roughly at your Vera location (aerial positioning).
Set wakeup interval to 240 this will give you a max 4 min response time to change setpoint.
Hope this helps.

Thanks will try that. Are you still using them, do you still have problems ? I am thinking of getting more of them, but if they are prone to going wrong a lot i will have to look at other options

Yes still use them, they are about 98% successful in use. I am retired and am around most of the time so not a problem to me.

I have taken the batteries out as you suggested. Before i did that the 2 symbols were flashing so i think that indicates no connection, hence no communication to my Vera. After taking the batteries out everything is working fine. I just wonder, how often will they loose connection ? What is your experience ? If it is once every few months i can live with it. If it is every two weeks I am not so sure i will get another one…

i’ve read a lot about these thermostates and wanted to buy a few but it seems that there are 2 different versions and also different firmware versions which cannot be upgraded on the device itself. can you tell us what firmware u have on yours ?
was also looking at stella z , but this one is not supported by vera it seems. wonder if it can be made working, as these have temp feedback and direct control which the danfoss lacks.

A lot depends on the amount of wireless traffic in your home, mine is quite heavy and I have installed 2 further vera’s as bridges. I have a problem probably every 2 months, but it is difficult to say whether that is the danfoss valves or vera, as i have been doing many changes recently.

@dsroberts1945
I could live with that. I might monitor it for a little while before i buy the next. I only have 1 vera lite, but so far 90ish devices… think need to upgrade soon

@Da_JoJo
I have only bought them 3 weeks ago, but dont know what firmware they are. How do i find out what they are ?

As I have posted previously I have 20 of these valves installed. All but one have the latest firmware 2.51 (check sticker on battery cover).

Despite my best efforts they all only go into panic mode within 24 hrs of resetting the valve. In panic mode they also appear to eat batteries. The worst effected valves are the two within direct line of sight on my master veralite (approx 2m and 5m away)

Freezing and no response to set points also effects the valves, but in no specific order.

Unfortunately I have no positive advice I can give you as all my experimenting has not successfully solved or even improved my problems. I am going to try the new StellaZ when they are back in stock.

I have received zero feedback from Danfoss regarding my issues.

Just had a look on google for StellaZ but cannot find them. Are they available in the UK, or who is the manufacturer ? Would like to have a look at them to see if that is an alternative for me

Hi,

StellaZ can be found at:
http://www.eurotronic.org/en/produkte/stella-f.html

But be carefull as a Dutch company: http://www.domotica-shop.nl/ has tested this device for compatability.
Vera 1, 2, 3 are marked as NOT compatible.

Regards.

Thanks Snotneus.

@benp

Could you please keep us updated of how you’re getting on with the StellaZ once you have got them ?

Thanks

Domotica shop tested it and found them incompatible because you wont get a normal HVAC or other interface with them, but this can be solved. it responses to normal z-wave traffic so shouldnt be a issue. i was planning to order one. make sure u have the stella Z as this is the only one z-wave compatible

I’ve ordered two StellaZ. Once I’ve had some time to play with these units I’ll let you know how I get on.

please do :slight_smile:
the temperature sensor might not show up but this is standard. just replace the device file with : D_TemperatureSensor1.xml

Well it has only taken 5 days, and i have lost communication to my Danfoss living connect again. Taking out the batteries did restore the communication, but it is very annoying.
I wonder if there is a way to have the communication status monitored, and get a notification when it is lost ?

you sure the batteries are full and not rechargable ones ?
sounds like im going to postpone my purchase of these. from what i read there is a lot of trouble with these devices and the lack of usefull options isnt helping either. :-\

I was going to use rechargeable ones, but read you shouldnt so am using the ones which came with it. There is nothing to indicate batteries are empty (there should be a battery symbol somewhere ont he display as far as i am aware), so that is not the problem i think. I will get in touch with Vesternet where i bought it and ask them if they have a solution/heard about the problem, but am quite pessimistic about solving that problem. I think my next one will be something different. Shame because they are easy to install and look quite good too, so would have liked to get more of them

Is the wake up occurring OK? Is the last update variable changing ? Can you poll them?

In the past, if I have something problematics, by using DataMine, I can track the key variables that change.

I meant to install datamine, but have not had the time to do it. I also have to install a usb hub as i have the Vera lite and a rfxtrx which uses the only USB port.
