I see some posts that are related to a problem I am having, and I hope someone may have a solution. I am attempting to control a Denon AVR-3806 by connecting it to my Mac with a Startec RS-232 one-port Serial-over-IP-Ethernet Device Server. I have done this with the Startec and a Russound whole-house audio amplifier. It works great and I have full control of the Russound. However, I have not been able to control the Denon. As with the Russound, the Denon is physically connected but unable to receive any commands. The port settings I chose are the same as the ones that work for the Russound (except for the IP address). The Denon seems to be in standby mode and I cannot figure out how to make it communicate. The Startec page is showing the port as being “Inactive”. I don’t know if this is because of a setting in the Startec or if, in fact, the Denon is asleep. The Denon is playing music, but perhaps the Denon processor is blocking commands or sending a signal saying it is in Standby mode. Any ideas on how to resolve this?
I have not been able to control the Denon. As with the Russound, the Denon is physically connected but unable to receive any commands. Spent the entire afternoon trying to make this work. I have concluded that the cable, Startech, and Denon are all good. Using Hercules client and direct connection to the Denon, I can switch from on to standby, mute, volume, etc. All works fine. That leaves me with the problem is either settings or the plugin (sorry Perry: I do not mean to be critical and it may very well be the settings). Startech said if the Denon initiates the connection then Startech port mode should be RawServer. That is consistent with my Russound that works fine. Not sure about flow control. Russound uses none. I have tried the other three options with Denon. 9600,none,and 1 match the Denon manual. I am running out of things to try and worse yet, I do not know how to diagnose any further. I know this can work but I just can’t get the right combination of things. Does anyone know of anyone who has a Denon AVR-3806 or similar model working with Startech?
How did you control the Russound unit from the Startech / Vera? I have a Startech unit that controls my audio matrix (RS232 port) from a PHP webpage I created, but now I want to control it from my Vera 3. Can you explain to this noob how to go about this? Thanks!
