Hi all – my contractor has asked about how to connect the smoke alarms to my security panel (DSC 1864). He says I need another part or something. I can’t seem to download the installation manual from the DSC website and don’t see the latest version online.
Can anyone give me a clue as to what we need to do to connect them? I had assumed that they’d just wire in like a powered accessory, like the video cameras. But I have no clue what that actually means…
What part do I need to order or what instruction should I give him? And if anyone has the latest installation manual that they could share, that’d be great!
And this is the smoke alarm we have: Universal Security Instruments MICN109 3-in-1 Smoke, Carbon Monoxide and Natural Gas Alarm
Thanks a bunch!!
Have a look on google search for DSC Smoke Alarm video
Some of the DSC detectors:

make use of an End Of Line (EOL) relay:

As a protective measure, I believe it sets off the alarm, if the power to the detectors fails.
However your detector appears to be mains powered and also incorporates a back up battery. It may or may not, make use of an EOL relay. Please don’t take this as advice it’s just a comment on the DSC detectors.

Thanks!! I’ve sent the link to our electrician.
You may not need the extra hardware. However, you would lose one of your eight zones that you would make the smoke zone. You would need to define that zone as a 24hr fire zone. Here is a link to the installation manual the I found:
Here is an example of how to define zone 8 as a delayed 24hr fire zone code “07”. Each zone has to be coded at the same time with two digits. Here is the example of coding each zone:
*8 5555 001 01 01 01 01 26 26 26 07 # # from page 11
Expect to spend several hours learning how to program, good luck.
