Channels = 0

Today after many months of service, DataMine indicated 0 channels in its panel, and when going to graphing page, the device list was all empty. This happened once before, but after a few days the channels started to work again gradually.

Well, this time I figured I should do some investigation. The log says it is starting version .970, but in “My Apps” vera has .972* Auto update never worked for me on this plugin, so I figured that it was time to update manually (using Brientim’s great guide, that I always use for DataMine; http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,12877.msg95089.html#msg95089

Well, after doing this, dataMine seams not to start at all, logs

I tried to install again a couple of times, but same thing. When I look in “develop apps → luup files”, the missing files show up (D_DataMine1.json and D_DataMine1.xml).
In /etc/cmh-lu there’s no DataMine files, but in /etc/cmh-ludl I have:

# ls -al /etc/cmh-ludl/ | grep Mine -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1210 May 4 11:31 D_DataMine1.json.lzo -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 378 May 4 11:31 D_DataMine1.xml.lzo -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 16 May 4 11:29 Data_Mine.png.lzo -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 192 May 4 11:31 I_DataMine1.xml.lzo -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 7 Mar 1 19:42 J_DataMine1.js.lzo -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 23885 May 4 11:31 L_DataMine1.lua.lzo -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 294 May 4 11:31 S_DataMine1.xml.lzo -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 11 May 4 11:29 dataMineWeb.tar.gz.lzo

I don’t want to mess around too much moving files around, so I figured I should ask here?

What is wrong with my Vera?

Edit:Not sure if DataMine has started even though log says it is offline. It seams so, because the panel has disk space information, which the old one did not. So maybe all is well, apart from the fact that I have no channels anymore. The USB seams ok, lots of channelfiles ([R].txt)

There were a few versions that report differently in dataMine version logging, and Veras version logging. This is because there are actually 3 version numbers, and they are all different (it’s designed for me to keep track of versions, and can be confusing!). I keep version numbers in the Lua, and the GUI - these are normally the same unless I do a Lua only update to fix something small (as I did recently) in which case they may be different. Then there’s the apps version number. I try to keep them all the same, but if there’s a problem in apps, then MCV can change version numbers, or if there’s an error when I’m checking the code in to apps, I may have to increment the version in apps. In these cases I don’t go back and change the version numbers in the code as I’d potentially end up in ever decreasing circles…

Hopefully you’re still with me… :wink:

Looking at the log, it looks like Vera is missing some files. I’ve seen this before when there’s been an incomplete update of a plugin - I suspect that the plugin download may not handle errors properly. In the early days of dataMine, I had some discussions with MCV about this as it was not always downloading the GUI file (which is about 600k) - they had a very short timeout, and as I have a slow internet connection at home, it was always timing out. There was no error other than the sort of thing you’re seeing. They fixed this by increasing the timeout, but my point is that the update system isn’t very tolerant of errors (in my opinion!).

Anyway, moving along…

The main files look about ok - I can’t confirm the file size of the implementation file as I’ve got a newer version on my machine, but it looks about right. I also don’t have any files in my cmh-lu directory, so this is consistent with you.

However, what I do find interesting is that you have files in this directory that I don’t think should be there. Namely, the png.lzo, and the dataMineWeb file. These files aren’t in my directory, and they should be somewhere else (and they probably should be lzo either!).

The text for the control panel is in the json file - it doesn’t necessarily mean that the plugin is running as I suspect Vera will pick up the new json file even without the implementation file running.

It would be worth taking a look in the /www/dm directory and see if the dataMineWeb.tar.gz file is in there - if the plugin isn’t running, it should be a ~600k file, and it shouldn’t have an lzo extension.
Maybe also delete the file dataMineWeb.tar.gz.lzo and Data_Mine.png.lzo and see if they come back when you re-install the plugin. If they do come back, it may indicate that something strange is happening in apps. These files are configured to have non-standard directory entries (along with another file called json-dm.lua - is this also in this directory?).

Let me know how you get on…

Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris,

This is how my /www/dm looks like;

# ls -al /www/dm/ drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 0 May 4 16:56 . drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 Mar 10 11:21 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5754 Mar 16 22:27 dataMine.css -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 May 4 16:56 dataMineWeb.tar.gz drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 0 May 4 16:56 extjs drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 May 4 16:56 images -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1765 Mar 21 23:28 index.html drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 May 4 16:56 js
dataMineWeb.tar.gz 0 bytes?

Also, I had the json-dm.lua.lzo in /etc/cmh-ludl which I removed along with the other two stray files. When I select install from aps.mios.com, all other dataMine file are removed, and after a few seconds repopulated in the same size as previously. The three wrong files never came back.

Looking in the log, after pressing the Reload button in Vera (up in the right corner), log fills with;

I still get the errors after an install, but maybe that is a timing thing that happens. @17:11:01 I press the Reload button in the Vera UI, and from there on, it looks as if dataMine is OK(?).

So maybe I’m back to where I was this morning, but with a newer dataMine (which always is nice :slight_smile: ) But still the channels are still 0.

The debug log page meanwhile looks like this;
Thanks,

This is correct. When apps.mios.com installs the file, it puts it into this directory, and its ~600k. I then unzip it, but I can’t delete it or Vera thinks the file is missing, and reinstalls the app! So, to mark that this GUI has been installed, I zero the filesize after installation.

So, this tells us one of two things - either the install didn’t install this file, or, dataMine is running (or ran at least once) after the upgrade. Looking at your log below, it is running…

So it looks to me like something bad/strange happened with the previous install…

Yes, your log looks normal, although as you say, no channels being logged.

Everything looks ok, but your config has been reset.

Before doing too much, take a backup (or maybe you have a recent backup since I think you were doing nightly backups?) - this is just for safety…

According to the logs, you have a backup of the config file (there are 10). You should try deleting the “dataMineConfig.json” file, and renaming the most recent dataMineConfig.json..backup file to dataMineConfig.json. Hopefully this will be ok, and you’ll be back up and running. If not, you could try a slightly older backup. dataMine generates quite a few backups of the config file - not just when you change configuration, but also when it does something internally…

Good luck :slight_smile:

Cheers
Chris

:slight_smile:

Thanks, now all is well again! Lost 3 days, it seams dataMine stopped at around 12 o’clock first of May for some reason.

New version looks nice, btw!

Thanks again,
Micael

I’m glad you’re back up again… I keep meaning to add notifications into dataMine so that if there’s a problem with the USB, it will let you know… Must take a look at that…

Cheers
Chris
