Changing from Vera 2 lite to Vera 3

3 months ago I installed a Vera lite with 3 thermostats, a light and a door lock. But as my previous post said the battery button was inoperative from the beginning. I finally got frustrated and ordered a Vera 3. Figured I would install it in my main house (that was setup with the Vera lite) and then use the lite in a vacation home.

I am not sure I knew enough before I began the switchover.

I disconnnected the vera lite from the network, then connected the new Vera 3. It’s light came on immediatly and my pc showed both units. I tried adding the devices which already were on the lite device.

When I now try to log in remotely it only shows the orginal lite and not the new Vera 3’s device number and IP address. It also says “Unable to communicate with your unit”.

  1. I know the unit number and IP address. Is there a way for me to manually add it to my Mios account remotely ( I am now out of town)?

  2. Did I need to unattach the devices first from the Vera Lite?

  3. I think I may have missed a setup step with the 3. When I was being guided through setup it early on had me update the firmware. Once it did that it just showed both units and didn’t have any other setup steps for me. I kept going back to the beginning but it just kept taking me in a loop to check for updates, then back to the beginning of setup.

  4. How do I reset the Vera 2 lite for the new house when I am ready to use it there with different devices?

Thanks for any guidance. I am pretty handy at tech things, but I am not finding this very intuitive.

Dave

Dave how did you migrate from your Vera light to your Vera 3? You could have backed up your Vera light and then restored this back up on your Vera 3. In doing so, it would have migrated the details to the new Vera 3 and the conducted a reset of your Vera light as detailed in the previous post link.

  1. Not unless you can get on to your unit.
  2. Not if you migrate as per comments above, if not and you are performing this manually, you will need to unpair the devices from your Vera light and then pair again with your Vera 3.
  3. Your appear to be stating the firmware was not upgrade. When you followed the process via MiOS did you select the correct unit type and corresponding unit. If it doesn’t upgrade you could try following the link bellows instruction or submit a request for technical assistance.

  4. see thread/link on previous post.

One thing to note is that you also have to select “Restore Z-Wave network”

Hi, thanks for the help, but that thread is only about battery backup, not any of my issues. I have it on UPS to bridge the 10 sec before my whole house generator kicks in.

  1. I’ll go back thourgh this in 10 days when I am back in town.
  2. I would rather manually do it as part of the Lite’s setup was not right (there was a phantom thermost)
  3. The install program first has you check for firmware upgrade. It did that and did download and install an upgrade But when I went back to setup after it did the upgrade it just kept taking me to check for an upgrade, then it would say it didn’t need an upgrade and dead end with no further setup steps. That is why I think it didn’t get setup which I assume is why it doesn’t show up when I log in remotely. I am stuck now though on how to complete the setup.

Hi Dave,

Sorry I had attached the incorrect thread. Have a look at this

When you log on and check your Firmware the most recent version is 1.5.408, if it isn’t at that version you can go to MiOS to take it to the that version.
