Changing Dimming Speed on GE 45606 Dimmer Switch

I have a GE Dimmer switch (#45606) installed i the kitchen. When I turn it on it slowly lights up to 100%, like they all do out of the box. In the kitchen however I am looking for a more “instant on” type of effect. When I walk into the kitchen it’s because I need someone so I want to be able to have it get to 100% quickly, near instant but with a very very slight fade on. Reading the manual (http://www.smarthome.com/manuals/59490.pdf) I see that I can change the interval steps, etc. but I guess I can’t figure out where to input them in the device settings or what to change.

Any help?

Assuming you are using UI4:

Settings → ‘Device options’ tab → ‘Configuration settings’:

Add variables

[ul][li]7 and 8 (control via Z-Wave) and/or[/li]
[li]9 and 10 (manual operation) and/or[/li]
[li]11 and 12 (all-on/all-off command)[/li][/ul]

‘Data Size’ 1 byte, set ‘Desired Value’ accordingly.

Close the settings window, save your changes, reconfigure your device:

‘Settings’ tab → Click ‘Configure node right now’ button

Edit:
Variables corrected. Thanks to JOD and mbairhead!

Ap15e,

I think it should be variables 8 and 10.

JOD.

See page 15 of the manual

Worked perfect, thanks!

Is there a way to also set that when you turn it on manually it only goes to a certain %?

For example when you turn on the living room lights using the switch it sets it to 80%, instead of 100%?

Thanks for helping the newbie!

According to the manual, there is no way to set it to a certain level when you turn it on manually, but you could setup a scene with an event (switch on) and set the desired level on the ‘Commands’ tab of your scene. Not the perfect solution, but might work.
