Carrier Infinity Thermostats with Remote Access via Internet

I am considering buying a new furnace with a fancy thermostat that controls fan speed, humidity and who knows what else. The thermostat also has the ability to be accessed via the internet. Product link below (very little actual information provided):

Does anyone have one of these? I am curious if it would be possible to control this thing with Vera. If not, do any of the Z-Wave thermostats offer complex options like humidity control? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Carrier Infinity thermostat communicates with the HVAC control boad via 4-wire connection and RS 485 protocol.
Carrier sells add on board called SAM which does have an RS232 interface for Home Automation. It also has a connector for Skytel telephone/pager board.
The Carrier Infinity SAM RS232 commands are described here: http://www.xpedio.carrier.com/idc/groups/public/documents/marketing/01-811-20156-25.pdf
but the SAM unit (SYSTXCCSAM01 can support 2 machines) is very expensive.

I was unable to find the RS485 commands for the Carrier Infinity.
Others: Homeseer, Elk M1, HAI report having written RS232, but not RS485 interfaces.
an Micasaverde do it?

did anyone ever find out if it is possible to connect to vera with the SAM module via the rs232 or via ethernet? i have a few homes i’m working with that have these systems in them and would like to be able to connect the systems to vera without losing the local functionality of the thermostat features. i just need simple control remotely.

can anyone help?
I’ll do whatever i can to help. testing and research.

Thanks!!!

Just wanted to check back in on this topic. Any updates being able to connect to Vera with the SAM module or via ethernet as Drew mentions above? Would really love to be able to control my system through Vera. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Bringing up an OLD thread!

Anyone have any luck with this?

As pointed out above, Carrier sells a “system access module” (SAM) which communicates over the same 4-wire bus as their Infinity thermostats. The current SAM model (which costs over $800) is designed to be compatible with the current “Infinity Touch” thermostats, and is the product Carrier sells specifically for the purpose of allowing home automation systems to talk to their Infinity heating and cooling equipment.

Full specs for serial communication with the SAM are available to the public. Thus far no one has designed a Vera plugin that would allow it to communicate with a SAM, and likely the high cost of the SAM is keeping any do-it-yourselfers from becoming interested. So no… there has been no progress on this idea.

I just was quoted $1,200 for the install of the SAM. Craziness!

Too bad the APIs aren’t exposed for their web controls. That would be the best path to take as was done by JoeyD for the Honeywell t-stats.

Too bad indeed. You might be interested in taking a look at the roundabout approach described here by someone attempting to get a HomeSeer controller talking to a Carrier Infinity web-enabled thermostat:

Re:Rheem Rudd WiFi Remote Access via Internet seems to be a Honeywell Tstat. Do you think your app will work with their Tthermostat? Are you still supporting your app and Vera connection software? How can I communicate directly with you? I am at banspam@verizon.net Use subject Vera.

Thanks

I suggest you start a new discussion thread to ask your question. This discussion is about the Carrier Infinity system wifi thermostat - which has absolutely nothing in common with thermostats made by Honeywell or Rheem.
