Can't include a Leviton DZs15

Not sure what I’m doing wrong. This is the second device i’m attempting to add so I don’t have a ton of experience

I installed the switch as per the instructions including the neutral.

Using the Veraedge web page I logged in and ‘add a generic device’.

I start the include process

I toggle the light switch and I get the ‘Device detected’ message at the top. But that’s it…I never see the device in the web UI. I’ve done a factory reset on the switch

Any help on this?

Thanks!

I’d like to add another issue with the thermostat I added. Nothing seems to control it properly.
I’f I logged into the vera site and attempt to change the temperature. I get a message the say something like…sending wake up command…and it never responds.

If I use the VeraMobile app…when I attempt to change the temp I get the doughnut…and it locks the app up.

If I use Home Buddy and change it from like 68 to 72…it stay at 72 for like a second…then flips back to 68.

The link shows good on the device

I excluded it…and re-added it. I also rebooted the VeraEdge.

The controller is about 25 feet from both devices

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Until you have a working Vera, forget apps of any kind. Apps are alternative access methods to Vera’s internet web interface, so if Vera doesn’t work, you should not expect different behavior from apps.

You don’t mention which thermostat you have, but the message; “sending wake up…” suggests that it is a battery operated device or something other than a Z-Wave device. In either case, it is not a good starting point for figuring out how to use Vera.

I suggest that you start by focusing on the switch alone and all work should be done with Vera and the switch in close proximity. Like two meters or less. After you have it working properly and you are familiar with how Vera works and what to expect, then you can move on to other devices and greater distances. Be aware that with only one or two devices your Z-Wave network may have limited range and while 25 feet is achievable in most situations, there is no guarantee that the Z-Wave signal can reach that far through obstacles and/or interference.

So, now you want to get your switch included. When Z-Wave devices fail to include you should perform an exclude and then try including again. The option to exclude appears on the add device screen after the failed include attempt.

Thanks for the reply!

As far as the apps…I did start with the web interface when it appeared the thermostat was working properly (which it did for the first day or so)…I downloaded the app. It was a couple days later when I attempted to use the app to change the temp…it failed. Then I tried the web UI…and it also failed there. Messing with it for the next hour or so did nothing

The thermostat is a VIVINT here
http://assets.cdn.aws.vivint.com/global/vivint.com/products/smart-thermostat/collateral/manual_smart_thermostat_ct30.pdf

Using this USNAP card (I bought it 2 years ago…can’t find the original source but this is it)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/281251089722?ul_noapp=true&chn=ps&lpid=82

It does use batteries for power failure…but has power hardwired (I think the “C” wire?!? It’s been a while since is hooked it up).

Moving on to the switch:
I read here that it should be installed as a generic device…which I was trying to do.
So in order to move the VeraEdge closer to the switch (as best I can tell from reading here)…I’ll need to run a network cable to the location of the switch? Wifi still doesn’t work on the client side correct?

So if I move the Veraedge with network cable…closer to the switch and I can include it. Can I relocated the VeraEdge to it’s original home (25"ish away) ? Does the includes process require more umfff than just using it?

If I get this sorted out would it make sense to install another z-wave switch somewhere between the VeraEdge controller and the 2 devices I’m mess with? The Thermostat and the wall switch are located on the same wall about 8’ a part

Thanks again for the reply!

Get the switch working close to Vera to eliminate the possibility of interference or range issues. Use it. Understand how it works. When you’re confident that you know all there is to know about it, relocate your Vera. If it stops working, you’ll know it’s a range/interference issue.

When everything else is working as expected and you turn to the thermostat, make note of the fact that the thermostat operates in two different modes. This is noted in the USNAP manual. When included on battery it behaves as a battery operated device, that needs to periodically wake up to send and receive commands.

To get it working is constant on - powered Z-Wave device - mode you should; remove the batteries and then exclude and re-include the thermostat while powered by the C-Wire only. After you get it working, you can replace the batteries.

Thanks again.

I’ll try your suggestions and report back. I didn’t receive a manual with the USNAP module…I should have probably looked for that.

So after messing with the the Leviton switch for a bit last night I was able to finally add it. It seems the trick was to exclude it first then include it as a generic device. I then moved on to the Thermostat.

It wouldn’t exclude…no matter what I did. I finally found the reset it…reset it twice. After the second rest it excluded and I was able to include it again.

The funny part is that walking through the wizard to include it…it mentioned that the batteries must be installed.

After returning the Vera to the original location (about 20’ away) I was able to exclude and include both devices again
