Can't connect Vera3 to wifi

I have a new Vera3 that seems to work ok when I have a physical connection to my router. However, I need to use wifi so I don’t have a cat5 cable running across the house. i found the instructions to set up wifi, but I can’t get the Vera3 to scan for networks and I can’t manually configure the wifi network. When I click the ‘scan and connect to a wifi network’ it doesn’t do anything. It doesn’t scan or produce any list of networks, just nothing. When I manually enter the wifi configuration and click save, it just reverts back to the default settings.

Any suggestions?

Any help/hints from anyone? Any other information you could use from me? I’d love to get this to work over wifi otherwise I’ll have to return it, which I’d rather not do.

I cannot attest to the stability of this or how well it works, but apparently you can do what you want by putting it in bridge mode… here is a thread on it:

note that by default the Vera3 is a wireless access point/router. It allows devices to connect to it and then go out to the internet. The above thread says you can do it, and it specifically points out this wiki entry:

I would start with the first link though and go from there.

Probably not much help, but I’ve found that the only browser that will do anything when I click to scan for wifi is FireFox. IE and Chrome both do nothing.

My problem is that I want the Vera3 to connect to my wifi so I can put it in the closet with my alarm system, and i can’t run CAT5 to it. Unfortunately, this seems to be impossible with the VERA3.

Editing my response: I can no longer get it to scan to find wifi network.

Okay,

I’m pretty close to sending the Vera3 back, and finding a different solution. My problem is that the Vera needs to be connected to my alarm system, but I can’t run CAT5 to the location. I need the Vera to be available on my existing wifi network. I’ve gone through the steps to have it scan wifi, found my network, put in the credentials, but it doesn’t work.

After it finishes, the vera3 is on it’s own wifi network, but has no connection to the wifi network I just gave it credentials for.

Is what I’m trying to do really impossible with this device?

That is what I am trying to do, but it won’t scan for a wifi network or accept the network id that I type in. It just doesn’t do anything. If I use my cell phone to detect a network, it can see the default Vera_xxxx wifi network, but I don’t want to use the Vera wifi network, I want Vera to connect to my existing network.

I thought maybe I needed a firmware update so I checked that, but it says it is up to date.

Here’s a screen shot of what I see on the wifi page
(also attached)

I click on the ‘Scan and connect’ button but nothing happens. Not sure if maybe the ‘?’ in the box means something is broken. Usually that just means an image can’t be found, but hard to tell what is correct and not correct with this interface.

Ok, don’t know if this will be helpful, but I got the wifi scanning and setup to work. But, the only way it worked for me was by downgrading my firmware to UI5.

thanks pguraedy. It sounds like you and I are trying to do the same thing and having the same problems. How did you downgrade to UI5?

I went into the firmware section of the web portal under setup and used http://download.mios.com/rt3662_betafirmware/rt3662_Luup_ui5-1.5.622-en-mios.squashfs as the URL in the custom firmware box. This got me back to UI5 and I have my Vera3 in the closet with my alarm panel and everything is accessible on my original wifi network.

Hope that helps.

And there was much rejoicing. I now have wireless connectivity after downgrading to UI5. Thank you pguraedy.

Of course, now my Vera3 has been disassociated with my account so I can’t set any alerts or anything. Wonderful. Something else to spend my weekend on.

I also was having problems getting WiFi to work with my Vera 3 but now I can Pan, Tilt, and see the video output from my VistaCam HD Camera using Chrome with WiFi. I mention this as Chrome was mentioned by pguraedy as not working. I was told today by the Vera Smarter Home Control Technical Support Team that I would get the best video resolution using Internet Explorer. It was set up for me today by Vera Smarter Home Control Technical Support Team at Support@getvera.com

Warning… caution… warning for none UI5 registered user before downgrading firmware.

There are different account access control between UI6 that you were on and UI5. If you haven’t had a previous account registered against cp.mios.com, you will need to create one. MiOS
The password criteria is different and will not use special characters as required for UI6 MMS authentication.

Once you have created the account the details here can apply.

Same problem… Brand new Vera out of box… configured it wired and went to reconfigure for Wireless and when you hit the “Scan for Networks Button”, nothing! Nada!

I don’t want to go back to UI5… this is a brand new piece of hardware! Between this and the really, really, really, really bad documentation, am I in for a rough time with this hardware??? All of the documentation said it would work in wireless and all of the docs show you how… they just don’t really work.

So much for my vent… anybody found any other solutions to this dilemma?

Contact MCV support as there are bugs in UI6 regarding network configuration issues.

I’m just going to leave the Vere3 wired. It seems happier and faster that way and I have other aspects of my HA system that I want to get rolling on.

I would just get a ethernet to wireless converter
http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-WNCE2001-Universal-Internet-Adapter/dp/B007CO5DZ4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1399393262&sr=8-1&keywords=wi-fi+to+ethernet+adapter

I know it’s added cost, but they just “WORK”
