I have just moved house and have a couple of weeks to wait until I get Internet but that was supposed to give me lots of time to work on my HA projects but have plugged the Vera in and can’t seem to connect to her. On power up I get the double blink on eth1 suggesting no Internet (which is fine as I don’t have any connectivity) but I thought I should be still be able to connect locally.
I have tried the local ip I had in my old place and no go, none of my iPhone apps connect or anything, they are all still connected to the same network over wifi, the only difference is that there is no Internet connectivity.
The Vera is on the network as I can ping it but something is obviously not right.
Any thoughts?
Power cycled a couple of times but still nothing changes?
I have a favourite saved for the log stream which is not accessible either.
Vera hates not having Internet access. The way it configures its network interfaces is a bit nonstandard, even for OpenWrt, so it’s not entirely surprising that it fails to set up the LAN interface properly if it can’t get an address on the WAN and/or connect to micasaverde.com on the Internet.
You might be able to hack it into submission. There are some posts here (sorry, you’ll have to search for them) from people that have put Veras into their cabins-in-the-woods, presumably without Internet access. But if it’s only temporary, and if you can fall back to Wi-Fi in the interim, I personally wouldn’t bother.
Actually you should be able to connect to Vera even if it doesn’t have Internet access. If you give your computer an IP like 192.168.81.2 and connect to a Vera LAN port you should be able to access the UI.
I’m having trouble with this as well. My Vera 2 (UI5) is connected to my router with an ethernet cable and my laptop is connected via wifi. Both have static DHCP addresses on my network. I do not have internet access at that apartment yet.
When I enter the Vera’s network address into my browser, the page will sometimes partially load and I will see the phrase “unit busy” or something like that, but sometimes it fails to load altogether. Using different browsers has the same results. I cannot use either of my Android apps anymore either.
What can I do to get my Vera working for the time that I will not have internet access?
Thanks.

Not sure of your network… You say ‘static’ DHCP is it static as in you gave them IP addresses or is it Dynamic as in the DHCP server gave the addresses. If it is static what are your complete settings? (router/gateway, broadcast mask etc…) Sounds sort of like you have something mis-configured in the network.
Slightly different question but along the same line.
Where did you set the static ip address?
The reason for the question is because if you set it to attic on your router, he Vera 2 has two ip addresses. And you maybe hitting the cached page. If it is set at you router, Log on to you router and see if this is the case and get the ip address.
What happened or did anything jhappen prior to this occurring.
Can you ping the ip address to check that is still active?
I’m not sure on android but I believe Fing is available. This will enable you do conduct a scan of your network.
If this fail, you may wish to try the default LAN process, connect laptop directly to LAN 2 on your Vera, ensure your laptop is set to to obtain it ip address or 192.168.81.xx. The default LAN ip address in that scenario should be 192.168.81.1.
Also, do you log to a USB or have a swapfile loaded to a USB (both are very good options for Vera2 UI5 to increase resource availability)? If so, ensur it is plugged in correctly and in its origanal port.
Last thing is if you dont and you can ping your ip address, it maybe just running low on memory and taking inordinate amount of time to refresh. The only way to establish this is to leave it to its own devices for a day and check back and repeat wait. The longest mine took was two day after, I had knocked a USB out after moving it.
Thanks, guys. I’ll take another look at my network tonight.
For now I can tell you that I am using a router that I flashed with Tomato and set the DHCP addresses as static in its configuration. The system was working fine (although still unreliable at times – but that’s a Vera thing) before I moved, but now that I have moved and have not set up internet access yet, it no longer works at all.
I am logging to a (rather small capacity) USB flash drive.
Scanning the network with Fing revealed the Vera’s IP address on the network and I can now access it through my browser.
I have no idea if it was something I tried differently, or if it was only a question of waiting for it to start working on its own.
No luck with my Android apps, though.
Thanks.
