I bought a new Kwickset deadbolt. I have looked at every forum every site on the web. I have my Vera 3 plugged into my router that is plugged into my cable box. Do I need to plug in Vera directly to my cable box for this to work? I have tried for 6 hours plus, for three days, to make this thing pair up. I ahve added 40 devices in my house and have had no problems. This thing has me on the ropes. HELP!
@ amocored … there are too many forum entries for me to list them please do a search. Bottom line is you have to take Vera to the lock or take the lock near Vera.
How far is Vera away from your locks?
Flo
I take the vera and I have a bridge to my network that I put on a 200 foot cord and I placed them both right below the lock. I mean right next to it. I have used this bridge for almost every set up. I can then manipulate the vera with my cordless laptop.
I have pulled the batterys, pushed the regular program button 3 times, held in the z-wave button for 30 seconds… all I see is the little red light next to the z-button flash and thats it.
Vera never acknowledges the lock. I never see the yellow light on the “c” lock. I get nothing. I have checked and the z-wave board is there and is plugged in correctly. I pulled the lock to check. Somebody help a guy out. ![]()
That is odd then. So the locks never got included right?
can you try excluding it and then try re-including the lock.
Let me know if that works.
I added some stuff to my last post. I cannot tell that it is included. When I hit the button twice it shows no more signs than when I include it. I have set this one with manuel codes. I have not seen where that should make a difference. Are there any apps or anything that I might need? Do I need to have my main computer on that is plugged into my router, and load it from there?..
As frichter09 said, you might need to exclude first.
Put Vera in exclude mode, (Devices → Add Devices → Advanced Z-Wave devices “Add” → Change “Include” drop down to “Exclude” and hit “Go”) and hit the button on the inside of the lock. Vera should say something like “removed unknown node”
Wait for Vera to go back to normal, then include (Devices → Add Devices → Advanced Z-Wave devices “Add” → Set it to “Include” drop down and hit “Go”) , then hit the button on the inside of the lock. And give the include time to finish.
I will try that. Usually when you add a device the node notification comes up and then it says “scanning device”. I am not getting any of that. The lock says that a “yellow” “C” light will come on when the lock is communicating. I don’t get that. What am I going to see when this thing includes? I did call the business I bought the lock from and they are sending me another z- board. I have heard from so many people that don’t have a problem with this device. I cannot tell what I could be doing wrong. Has anyone had a similar problem after they program the two “on board” codes then try to include it?
With locks, it is very necessary to leave Vera near the lock for several minutes after including!
I don’t use UI5; but on UI4, I’ve found the greatest success literally hanging Vera from the lock with the cord, including the lock, and then just going & making a sandwich. Just leave it there. There’s communication between the lock & Vera that follows the inclusion process that must be completed.

I just have an unmarked red light near the button I press.
You are pressing the white button, under the cover, on the interior side of the door right? It’s unmarked, and just to the left of the “SmartCode” lettering, underneath “PROGRAMMING INSTRUCTIONS.”
You should not be hitting the black “Program Button”…that is just used for local programming.
HURRAY!!! I was able to get the home control board replaced and the new one fired up without a problem. I don’t know why it was bad, but it was. I want to thank everyone for thier help. Without it I would not have been able to prove that it was bad.
