I was just wondering if there was a Z Wave device out there that you could store a number of different voice messages on. These messages could then be triggered to play, say when a door opened, a sensor was tripped or when a scene started.
I don’t know about any specific z-wave device that plays audio recordings, but you can integrate other audio solutions with Vera scenes to play over existing audio devies like your stereo or whole house audio solution.
I discussed how to do this with iTunes/Airtunes (now called AirPlay) here: http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php?topic=3895.0
That being said, a little mounted speaker with zwave control would be handy to replicate what a lot of security systems do by announcing when events occur.
There is an Everspring doorbell, that can play one .wav file. (Sold by Jo-El in Denmark.)
It can have more sounds, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to play different sounds with Z-Wave.
When I tried it, Vera could not control it. But it only need a Basic On to play the default sound, so it should be possible to make it work.
I have a nabaztag that I was going to try and use for this sort of thing and just use the standard notifications to email it. When the nabaztag receives it, then it just speaks out the text. Its not ideal, as the notifications don’t read too well, but you would get the idea and which sensor had been triggered!
