Can Vera close a garage door using Wayne Dalton Wireless Gateway?

I’m confused. So we can’t use the coupon on the Vera 2?

Please confirm.

Thanks,
Rob

Correct. Meaning the mentioned coupon code is intended for a discount on HomeSettings Z-Wave products. It worked for a short while, probably by mistake, on a kit which included Vera as well.

yup, my posting the link and then someone probably bought the deal (and it wasn’t even me!), clued them in to put it in another category, other than the “Homeminder” modules, so no discount any longer on the Vera 2 with the 6 modules :frowning:

A little bit off topic, but is there any way to show HRDS1 status in Vera UI2?

I successfully used HRDS1 to turn on/off lights in the closet when closet door is closed/opened.

My educated guess, I have to use some kind of virtual device.

Unfortunately, “how to” information on virtual devices is very fragmented and spread across multiple topics.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Did anyone get else this? I ordered the Vera2 7 piece zwave package when you first mentioned it, and the order was processed. However, I just received the package and it only contains the 6 pieces of zwave and does not contain the vera2. I have written an email to zwave products, and will see what they do.

Hi,

I’m trying to use the external terminals on and hrds1 to get feedback on the status of my garage door as disussed in this thread. I am wondering if I need to change any jumpers or anything on the hrds1 to make it use the external terminals instead of the magnet for sensory input? I included the hrds1 in my network with no problem, but I am not getting the notifications when the door moves. I am also using the asiHome external sensor suggested in this thread.

Here is a link to the instructions for the sensor: http://www.smarthome-products.com/productspecs/sm103_manual.pdf - if you move the sensor do you see it open and close?

How did you setup Vera to show hrds1 status?

Kaldoon - Thank you for the response… The sensor I am using is the hrds1, not the sm103, but they seem to be just about identical and there is no mention of jumpers in those docs so that is probably not my problem. I see the led illuninate when I depress the tamper switch so the sensor is powered and alive, but when I open/close the door there is no notification message sent as there is with the other similiar sensor I am using on another door. Maybe the gap between the external sensor and its magnet which is connected to the external terminals is too wide…or the sensor doesn’t have enough power to transmit back to vera. I’ll have to look at those things this weekend.

Virginian - I found it pretty easy to include in my network and in fact excluded and included it a number of times while troubleshooting my problem without issue.
All I did initially was bring vera2 to the sensor and put her into exclude mode (held z-wave button down for about 5 seconds, got a very rapid blinking on the led), then pushed and released the tamper switch on the sensor a couple of times until the led on vera flickered even much more rapidly for a few moments. Then just as a precaution I brought vera back to her place, connected back into the network and let vera boot up…then checked to make sure all was ok and that the new sensor was not there. Probably not necessary but I always do the exclude and reboot step as a precaution. Then I just brought vera back down to the sensor in the garage, booted her up, and pushed the z-ware button once to get the led bliinking slowly to indicate inclusion mode. Then just pushed the tamper switch on the sensor a couple times again until I got the rapid blinks on the z-wave led. Brought very back upstairs and rebooted everything and the sensor showed up in the dashboard.

The only ‘status’ shown is a simple motion detector type arm and bypass buttons which illuninate when selected. I have text notifications sent when the sesnor is armed and gets triggered. That’s it. My other sensor works great and I get notified within about 5 seconds…but it uses the standard magnet setup and not an external sensor with the terminals.

In case anyone was wondering, I did get my vera2 today. Package arrived on a Saturday via fed ex. I had written multiple emails, and did not get responses, however last piece arrived 1 week later.

Do you guys have any suggestions on how to connect the 12 gauge wire( aka reducing 12 gauge to 18 or 20 gauge) from the FM-20 to the door connectors on my opener. I don’t have much room left

I have the LFM-20 in a project box; AC coming in on one side, signal wire leave the other side. Internally connected with wire nuts. AC plugs into an outlet. Signal wire runs to the garage door opener terminal block.

See also @rlmalisz’s implementation.

Thanks. I saw that but needed to figure out the whole signal wire to the terminal box configuration. Do you have any photos of it?

Sure; right away. Had to take a peek yesterday, as the box had become non-responsive. Not sure if it was mechanical (this lives on top of the garage door motor), or the LFM-20 itself had somehow locked up. After checking and redoing the wire nuts, it was working again. Anyway; some pics attached.

Cool thanks!

Sorry but about to begin the project of controlling my liftmaster 3800 garage door openers and was wondering if this is still the best method??

  1. Use a lfm-20
  2. Attach to HRDS1 contacts (or other device similar)
  3. Hard wired (garage door contacts closed circuit)
    http://www.smarthome.com/7455/Garage-Door-Contacts-for-Closed-Circuits-SM-226L/p.aspx

Is this my best option?? Thanks in advance!

I have been using this method for over a year and has not caused any issues. This is the only method that I know of that works. There is no zwave garage door opener.

Like @garrettwp said, I believe there is nothing native.

I Z-Waved up the garage door in parallel to the existing controls. One of the HomeLink buttons in the car still controls the garage door, as previously (i.e. no Z-Wave, native HomeLink built into the opener). Then the other two HomeLink buttons talk to the WDHA-12R, to kick off scenes to control (driveway) lighting and interior door lock. The Z-Wave control of the garage door is used for automated control outside of the vehicles.

ok, so stupid question? I have 2 garage doors that I am trying to control. There is a a controller on the wall with 3 buttons (1 for each door). I am only using 2 doors which is why I only want to worry about the 2.

So do I need 2 lfm-20 units? These get directly wired to the wall unit which controls each door correct?

Then the HRDS1 are wireless but they connect hard wired to the garage door contacts?

Is there anything else? Am I missing something??

Thanks in advance!

hi

The relay in picture is EVOLVE zware relay module? (Buy Z Wave Receiver, Inline Module | Home Automation Module)
Possible if you show me how do you use (wired?) windows sensor with it

thank you so much
