I just thought I’d post on here my experience with my USB hub and the problems it caused in case anyone else runs into this.
I have a Vera Lite and it continuously has had the red error light on, but everything was working just fine, albeit very delayed. The only thing that wasn’t was my insteon device, but I figured it was an issue with everything being so sluggish.
I opened up a ticket w/ Vera tech support and pretty much got the typical response “everything looks good”. I’d respond back and ask for them to check the logs. They’d ask to be added as an administrator, I’d do that and then they’d ask for me to renable tech support (which was already enabled).
So I gave up on waiting on them and decided to troubleshoot the Insteon device as a starting point. Well at that point I noticed that it wasn’t able to communicate with the device. Upon further investigation, I noticed my USB hub’s light was not on. I decided to unplug the hub and plug the Inteston device directly into the vera (which meant no USB drive logging). Everything started working just fine and vera itself was “peppy”!
I tried plugging the USB hub into another computer and nothing worked with it. I am chalking it up as dead.
So the moral of this story is to consider whether or not your USB hub is causing problems with your Vera!
