Blacksumac's Piper

Has anyone tried the new Piper product that came out from Blacksumac? It has a 180 degree camera, motion sensor, light sensor, sound sensor, temp sensor, mic, speaker, and siren built all in one. I want to add a camera to my Vera system and came across this device, it looks pretty slick. It appears to be its own controller, though. I would prefer it to be multi-purpose device on my Vera z-wave network. I have to replace my faulty Aeon 4-in1 crap sensors and feel this would be a great replacement.

I’m curious to if this is possible to work on the Vera, yet. The device may be too new. Just seeing if anyone had any experience with it yet.

My wife’s boss ask me to look into this, he came across the product in one of his trade journals.

From what I can see, the controller/camera/sensor main unit is unique. I haven’t been able to find any screenshots or documentation yet, nor a support link.

The accessories they sell are all re-branded switches and sensors already made/sold by other folks.

It’s really going to come down to the interface and event/triggers/scene/API flexibility. I can’t find any info, which makes me suspicious.

Edit: I just sent an email to them pointing out the fact there are no support or documentation links on their website, and asked whether they had an API for integration with other systems.

I’d want one for the camera alone. There’s a few places were I want to use a 180 degree fisheye camera, but I’ve yet to find affordable alternatives.

I order one last year during their crowd funding action. But I am from Mainland Europe so I ll have to wait for my European version …

Just got back a reply from them:

"Thanks for your interest in Piper!

We don’t have documentation to send right now but I’m here to answer any questions you may have.

We don’t have an API yet - that’ll be available later this year.

Thanks!

Let’s see… no documentation… no API… no support links on their website… yet they still keep pushing the ‘buy now’ URL.

Yup, I’d stay away from this product.

Yeah, thats very concerning that they do not have any documentation yet. I know its a new product, but good planning would tell you to give the necessary manuals to users.

It looks like a promising product, but too new yet for me to spend money on it.

They did reply back to an email I sent them asking if the Piper could be added as a device to Vera. They said at the moment its not supported as a device for other controllers. But, like they told you, they are working to update it later in the year so it can be setup as a secondary controller to things such as Vera.
