Auxiliary not working

I just installed the GE 45613 3 way switch. The master switch works great. It operates the light and connects to my z-wave network just fine. However, the auxiliary light doesn’t control the light. When it’s pressed, the light slightly dims or flickers a bit, but it doesn’t shut it off. I can’t really see how it can be wired any differently, but I admit it’s possible I didn’t wire it correctly.

Can anyone think of a way that it could be incorrectly and still produce the results I’ve cited or is it more likely that I have a defective switch?

Usually the slave (auxiliary) switch is connected to neutral (white wire), and to the slave connector on the master switch (usually utilizing the red traveller).

So how is your slave switch connected? And how did you connect your master switch?

Are you using LEDs? I found if I don’t have enough LEDs on a circuit none of the dimmers (GE and others) can completely turn off the lights. Because LEDs have so little resistance, a very little current flow can causes to flicker. I fixed the problem by adding higher wattage LEDs and increasing the number of LEDs in the same circuit. I think you are describing the exact same problem.

If you have all LEDs, to troubleshoot, remove one LED and replace it with a regular light bulb. If the problem disappear, then yep do what I did to fix it.

Hope this helps.

Did you ever solve your problem? I too am having trouble with my aux switch. I have a CFL bulb in the ceiling light and the primary switch (i.e., the one with the blue light) is able to turn on/off the light but pressing the aux switch does nothing.

If your primary switch controls the light properly then there is no bulb issue and it is likely that the primary switch is fine.

This means that you either have a wiring issue or a bad aux switch.
