Its primary function is to run automated schedule ON and OFF controlling a power pack for a 12v led ribbon light.
It is located approximately 2 meters (6 feet) from the vera controller.
Lately the Off automation function is failing. If I turn on/off from the web interface all is ok. If I run the OFF automation sequence manually it works fine.
I have removed and replaced the schedule to no avail. I have rebooted the vera.
Have a look at Vera’s log file at the time when the scheduled scene should run. If the schedule is firing you should see an entry like: Scene::RunScene running xx where xx is the number of your scene. If the entry doesn’t appear, there is something wrong with your schedule. If the entry is there, there is something wrong with the action. Check for errors in the log following the RunScene.
Please excuse my inexperience and lack of knowledge but how to I read the logfile.
If I go to setup–>logs I get options for logging (eg tick in show polling activity, show individual jobs, archive old logs on server) but no actual log.
There are several ways to view the log file. If the browser route doesn’t work, you could use WinSCP - which is a useful tool to set up for other purposes too. There is a good description of getting WinSCP running at the bottom of the following post (which also explains how to get the root password): http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,12467.msg91326.html#msg91326
Once you have WinSCP connected to Vera, navigate in the right pane to /var/log/cmh then right-click on LuaUPnP.log and select Edit. Now you can browse the log at your leisure. Instead of Edit, you can also select Custom Commands and Grep… which allows you to search for strings.
Some of this bare-metal stuff can be frustrating when you are starting out but you usually only have to go through it once.
thanks for the advice. I will checkout how to get to the log files later as a matter of course (password is only issue atm) but I think I may have solved the issue.
I have to check this again tomorrow but I believe the issue is not the system/hardware/setup but the power company deciding to drop the power (on the tariff that this application is on) for about 10 minutes in the morning. Right at the same time the schedule sends an OFF request.
I have changed the schedule by 20 minutes later and tested initially this morning and all worked fine. I’m pretty sure that tomorrow this issue will not occur as the schedule OFF will be sent to the device which has power unlike what has been occurring in the last couple of weeks.
If the fault continues to happen I will advise.
Thanks for your assistance and I have learned more about how to use this system.
OK, loss of power would explain why it stopped working. If there’s a chance that the power-out time could change, it may be worth having two Off commands separated by 20 or 30 minutes so one should always get through.
