I have a few Everspring flood sensors installed with text/email triggers setup. However, I’m looking for a more audible way to alert us if there is a problem, especially in the middle of the night. Aside from the Fortezz siren, are there any other devices I should take a look at for this purpose?
You could get a Sonos Play 3 or 5 and use the sonos plugin to do TTS alerts for just about anything.
I use vera in conjunction with an an old HP laptop i stuck in my network closet thats running Linux (debian). The laptop’s audio out is hooked up to our homes central audio system ( ceiling speakers around the house )
I setup a scene when a certain sensor is tripped, to send a request via Luup code using http to a php script that runs a VLC command to play an audio file (siren sound from star trek with the computer voice, you are not authorized…)
Notice that in order to prevent unauthorized access to the scripts which run local commands on the system, I use iptables to only allow access from the vera ip.
Just a suggestion on how I implement this. Delay is really short, less than 2 seconds from trip to play.
Thanks guys - you made my creative juices flow
I’m in the midst of setting up raspberryPi for VPN and OwnCloud - never thought of using it in conjunction with a speaker + vera for sound alerts.
also forgot to mention vera alerts, you can run it on any android device
I switch on and off my lights…
