At WWDC Apple announced that HomeKit will support software authentication (meaning there is no longer the requirement for a special authentication chip). Do you think Vera will support this natively or do you think it will be up to the community to create a plugin? I have setup and used VeraHomeKitBridge for a while - but it isn’t the solution for the masses… Interested in people’s thoughts on this one…
Will they develop the support for this, I don’t know. Must Vera support this? ABSOLUTELY, it will be the only thing stopping me and my cutomers from dumping Vera and moving to the first ZWave platform that will support Homekit natively.
So Vera team, we know you’re listening, please get to work on Homekit support immediately, there is no reason not to now!
I actually emailed the Vera support team about this - here is their response…
Unfortunately this devics has not been integrated on our system as we are working and improving the Alexa Beta skill , however our development team is aware of this request and we got plan to integrate it but we do not have an ETA for it.I wasn't even aware that they have an Alexa beta going on. I presently have a Google Home, Amazon Dot and Siri (on my phone, iPad, etc.) I will most likely buy a HomePod out of curiosity although I'm pretty committed to Sonos at my house.
Typical window user response. They have no clue how big HomeKit is going to be. We live this over and over… so annoying. No foresight until it’s way later into the game
You should just buy a Raspberry Pi 3 and run Homebridge-Vera. Just got mine from Amazon this week and am up and running. Cost me about $60 and all the software is free. Shocking how well it actually works. Been solid for the last 3 day’s. I doubt it will be anytime soon that Vera integrates this.
I have my PI3 boxed for over a year when it was a hassle updating Plex using Linux. I suspect this would not need as many updates. I may have to dig it out when I have a free weekend.
Now that Apple has actually released HomeKit software authentication (as of iOS 11.3) I wanted to dust off this thread. Has anyone heard anything new about this?
Hopefully Vera have been able to do some work on it since the announcement 12mths ago.
Maybe in another 24 months or so… I’m in Europe and we’re still waiting for Amazon 
so I don’t think it will come soon. Leave for another german product that has all these stuff included.
