I have 4 outdoor cameras already wired with coax and connected to a DVR. I wanted to integrate it with Vera instead but not sure which way to go. Buying new IP outdoor cameras and wiring them is too expensive and time consuming. I was thinking of an encoder or DVR that could interface with Vera.
Apparently from other posts the Defender DVR supports this url thing. Not sure what that feature is actually called to be able to source one that does this.
Start with checking if there is a app available for your DVR.
If you find any then 99% sure you can add the DVR live view to you Vera.
IOS apps that support most DVR /IPcams
[ul][li]Netcamviewer (free version will support 2 cameras)
IP Cam Viewer[/li]

Do you have any recommendations? I messed around with Defender for over a 2 weeks and eventually returned it because i could not get it to work.
My iphone did work with it, but i believe it was RTSP stream?

I’m with you. I also have a dvr with 3 cameras connected to it.
I’ve been trying to make it work with my Vera2 but nothing so far… yesterday I’ve found a plugging called DVR - can’t post the link?
I’m now trying to install it but it looks dificult… since I’m not home that might be the problem so I’ll try it latter on.
You can not post links as your have a limited number of posts. Once you reach the certain amount of posts, you can post links, receive / send pm’s etc. As for the DVR plugin, it looks pretty generic. You need to make sure you have all of the required information e.g. url, port, ip, etc. Also you need to make sure that your DVR allows of viewing each camera via a jpg link or an mjpeg url.
The reason you are having trouble installing the plugin is that you are doing it remotely. I believe as of right now, you need to be on the same network as the vera unit to install the plugin.

I have part of that information, exception goes to the url for the jpg. My dvr is a Kare (chinise maker). It has been working perfectly with it’s own software for windows and meytech.com for Android. I can view the 3 cameras at once or one by one but I don’t know if it has a url for each camera…

Yeap, I thought it was that. Had the same problem with the weather plugin and @ home network it went perfectly.
