What might be possible is a settable option to “Always display all table rows” (which is really what I am thinking of), and then based on that initialize bootgrid with rowCount = -1, or rowCount = [to the array]. In the former case it appears the row select dropdown will be absent which is a slight downside.[/quote]

Suggestion for self documentation of some sort.

There are so many features and options, that it’s hard to remember the details on how/why/when.

I saw a post from a new user that didn’t know how to open AltUI from the MCV UI. That’s not intuitive, but those of us that have been using it from the start did that, book marked it, and forgot about it. There are items on the Options screen that I’ve never used, and don’t really understand.

Could you have a question mark next to the different options names, linked to a help or explanation text box? For example, Use Vera Favorites was discussed way back on the thread, and in the version log, but not sure I could find why I do or don’t want to check that box. I’m still not sure when or if I should save or clear File DB.

I use an iPad a lot, and I know screen real estate is difficult to find, but here’s my problem. When I’m scrolling up or down through lots of devices, I accidentally hit a device switch, and turn on a light, or unlock a door when I just meant to scroll past it. Maybe it’s just my fat fingers, but is there anyway to increase the blank space at the the edge of the screen?

Just my thoughts on your already excellent project

If I understand that correctly it looks like an option is to compare the physical location of the start and end touch - if they are different, the user must have been scrolling instead of selecting. Could this work, or does that have bad side-effects?

understood but this solution is a bit klunky, I would like to stay away from these Javascript strange event manipulation techniques which are nightmare to support, especially to support on iPad/Tablet where debug is hard, I ll try to see if we can find something more simple

I have an “Owl” Energy Meter I use in conjunction with the RFXtrx controller plugin. The reading shows up OK on the standard device panel but not on the favourite tile. Is there any chance of getting it working as a favourite?

The relevant variable is “Watts” and the Device Type is urn:schemas-micasaverde-com:device:PowerMeter:1.

Top work on this by the way, this interface is head & shoulders above UI7!

Hello everyone,

I’d like to suggest showing scenes that are in the same room as devices to appear together. Does anyone think this would be worthwhile?

First - thanks for creating this - I think it fills a clear need.

A few suggestions:
First to add a few things that will help reduce some clutter in the Devices view.

  1. In the filter by category ability, add the ability to exclude categories - e.g. I want to view all categories but motions sensors (usually this is done by checkboxes next to the categories and then people can select which ones they want and which they don’t and maybe a select all.)
  2. Add the ability to easily hide devices from the UI - maybe in the arrow click in the top right of each widget add a hide/unhide option.

Second is to display on the devices view Watts when available. It is there for some deices and not others (e.g. not there for thermostats). It is displayed in UI7 and it is very useful because it indicates when the thermostat is actual providing heat/ac (if you set the thermostat to 25 and it is 26 degrees, the heat won’t go on, even though the thermostat shows state Heat or Auto. Wattage would read 0 and you would know that no heat is actually being provided to the room; when it is 22 degrees Watts would show how many watts the thermostat was providing to the heater to open the power/flow and you would know heat was being provided).

Sometimes it’d be useful to see just temperature and humidity readouts for instance - it’d be great to be able to select just those two device types.

The wattage readout of devices would be really handy too. For instance, I have some power monitoring switches which I never actually turn off - I’m using them purely for their power readouts. I can tell from them if my PC is sleeping, idling or being taxed by something. I also use the power usage of my amp to tell if it is turned on or on standby.

Oops - feeling pretty stupid here! I was sure I had some switches that didn’t show power, but I’ve just checked them and they do! Don’t know how I managed to make that mistake!

for thermostat, I struggle with the real estate. could you please do a small screen snapshot and show where/how you would see that watt information to be placed ? thanks !

I see the problem. Maybe in the top right corner over the auto/cycle/on selection?

I also want to make sure you saw the suggestion to easily add a way to hide devices from the arrow menu in the top right corner of each device - Variables/Actions/Control Panel/Hide-Show Toggle
